Will Sons Of Anarchy Extend Past Season Seven?

With so much going on for the members of SAMCRO, i’m beginning to wonder if the planned seven season run of Sons of Anarchy (the highest rated show on cable network FX) will be enough to tie everything together and wrap up the sorrowful tale of the Teller-Morrow family?

When the question was asked to creator Kurt Sutter during a recent interview, he was uncertain himself about the shows future past a seventh season stating “There’s so many factors that determine whether a show continues or not.  I came up with the initial awareness that if this show was being done in sort of the same production model that “The Shield” was in — and I knew that “The Shield” had about seven seasons. And I knew that at that point the show ultimately begins to eat itself and becomes more expensive to make. So I thought if we could get a full run I could tell the story I wanted to tell in seven seasons. And I knew by the end of this season [six] I’d have a sense of whether or not I’d be able to do that, and I still think I can.”

“But look, I think if I got halfway through this season or at some point next season I felt like I couldn’t finish it, I’d probably be able to have a conversation with the network,” he said. “I think after seven seasons I don’t know if we can maintain the rhythm and the pace that we’ve done, and I wouldn’t want to extend it and have it become something that it’s not. So my plan is still to finish it out in seven.”

So while the plan to keep the show remains at seven seasons, don’t be surprised to hear if the show is brought back for an 8th season or even a final season split over two years like that of Breaking Bad.

In not so surprising news, The AMC network announced that it’s number one show, The Walking Dead has been renewed for a fifth season.  We knew it was coming, it was just a case of when the announcement was going to be made and as AMC president, Charlie Collier,  said in a statement “We are very happy to make what has to be one of the most         anti-climactic renewal announcements ever: ‘The Walking Dead’ is renewed for a fifth season

This is a show that has erased traditional distinctions between cable and broadcast. Its expanding base of passionate fans has grown every season, most recently — and most notably — with the season four premiere earlier this month, which broke viewership records for the series and became the biggest non-sports telecast in cable history. On behalf of the incredible team on both sides of the camera, thank you to the fans and here’s to more ‘Dead.’

Since it’s return three weeks ago, The Walking Dead has been holding it’s massive 16+ million viewers on a weekly basis for it’s fourth season, and it’s follow on show The Talking Dead is even managing to hold around 5 million viewers.

Locally, the show, which is aired on FOXTEL’s FX channel, is bringing in around 220,000 viewers, making it the networks biggest audience.
