Modern Family to Head Down Under

Modern Family is coming to town!  Yes, the hit comedy has set a deal (or partnership via Twentieth Century Fox and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products as it’s officially known) with Qanatas to bring the show to Australia for a two week shoot!  Funnily enough, both Eric Stonestreet (Cam) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell) recently spent time here (Stonestreet in a deal with Big W and Ferguson for Holidays) – and hopefully both have picked up enough of our slang to get by!

The show has begun a sort of tradition with episodes taking place in holiday destinations – Hawaii, Disneyland and Wyoming (wait…is Wyoming a holiday destination?)  and the show’s creator Steve Levitan says that this vacation shoot will be the “most ambitious yet.”

Levitan also notes “We promise to feature a kangaroo, a koala and a boomerang. I’m sure there will be lots more, but so far that’s all we know about Australia (guess he didn’t watch the Oprah or Ellen Australia specials), our American school system is a disaster … So we thank Qantas for this amazing opportunity to broaden our horizons. Plus it’ll be nice to go to a place where everyone looks like Hugh Jackman and Miranda Kerr. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!”

So yes, there’s enough Aussie stereotypes in his press release to ensure Jay Pritchett will surely be featured “throwing a shrimp on the barbie” while Phil Dunphey imitates Crocodile Dundee.

The entire cast and crew will be flying into as yet un-named locations (obviously Sydney, hopefully Melbourne) next month, for a two week shoot with the episode to air mid year.

Modern Family currently airs Sundays 7:30pm on Channel 10.
