New Mattel Wonder Woman Line Coming to Australia

Wonder-Woman-Movie-Mattel-Figurines-Toy-Fair-2017-3.jpg

The New York Toy Fair held earlier this year revealed some very cool new merchandise from Mattel to coincide with the new Wonder Woman solo movie which hits theaters in June.  From Wonder Woman action figures to dress-up action gear and movie themed articulated dolls, Mattel are going all out to ensure that Wonder Woman receives as much love as her male superhero counterparts.

With the Wonder Woman Black Label Barbie from the Batman Vs Superman movie not being released here in Australia (oddly enough, a version of the SDCC exclusive was available here in Australia via Toys R Us), there was some worry this new line may not make it to our shores.

As it turns out, we need not worry as Mattel have confirmed to me that Wonder Woman merchandise including those revealed at New York Toy Fair are expected to hit the market around mid April, and mega toy retailer Toys R Us have also confirmed to me that they will be stocking items including the Justice League 12″/30cm Wonder Woman figure, the Barbie Wonder Woman Collector Doll, the Wonder Woman Doll and Horse Set, Wonder Bow and the Wonder Woman assorted Fashion Doll range.

And for those interested in the DC Superhero Girl line, Mattel noted that new additions will hit the market “mid year, if not earlier”.

There is still no official word on pricing yet.

Exciting news for Wonder Woman fans!

Mattel Takes on Female DC Super Heroes

Wonder Woman and Supergirl DC Super Heroes by Mattel

Fashion dolls and action figures that come with positive messages have become a major selling point of late and rightfully so!  Companies like IAmElemental and Mattel’s Barbie have recently been introducing female empowered figures and dolls that are all about ‘being the best you’ to the very lucrative 6 to 16 year old female market and now, DC heroines including Wonder Woman and Batgirl are joining those ranks via a new line of fantastic fashion action figure dolls from Mattel.

Among the bevy of empowered and positive female figures hitting stores is the DC Super Hero Girls that will see 6 well-known DC heroines and villains from Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Harlequin and Bumblebee released as collectible action figure dolls with several points of articulation, fabric uniforms and rooted hair.  They are somewhat shapely like Barbie but stand half an inch taller than the blonde bombshell.

The plan to diversify just what toys are offered to girls in toy stores is a big bold move that seems to sit well with both the kids wanting the items and the adults buying them . Mattel’s announcement of new curvier Barbie saw adult collectors snap up the shapelier dolls in the droves and with DC’s legion of fans behind them, Mattel could be sitting pretty knowing a second audience with accessible cash is eagerly awaiting these figures.

A budget or cheaper version of these figures will also be hitting stores along with smaller plastic molded versions of each character.

Hitting Target stores in the US first, word has it that here in Australia, KMart, Target and Big W will be stocking these figures and these could be hitting our shore as soon as March 31st so get your wallets ready!

Depending on the popularity of the line, further releases including Katana, Catwoman and Hawkgirl could be announced.  Find out more about the DC Super Hero Girls here.

Do you have plans to collect the line?  Want to see another heroine not listed released at a later date?  Sound off in the comments above.

First Look at the Friends Funko Pop Vinyls

Rachel Green and Monica Geller Funko Pop Vinyls

Entertainment Weekly have offered up the first exclusive look of the brand new Friends Funko Pop Vinyl line featuring all six characters from the beloved show, each with iconic character additions that will have Friends fans excited to own each and every one – me included!

With the addition of the Pop Television line, Funko have been able to delve into the television vault and offer up everything from the recent American Horror Story and Orange is the New Black Pops to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dr. Who and even Saved by the Bell Pops and while there are still a few glaring omissions to the upcoming release list (Sex and the City and Melrose Place – I want a Sydney Andrews Pop! hint hint) the long-awaited Friends Pops have finally been revealed.

“These figures are better when they’re crazy-looking,” Funko CEO Brian Mariotti told EW. “Everyone on [‘Friends’] is just really good-looking, so we needed to get the details just right. We had to add that extra level of ‘Friends’-ness. I know, that’s not even a word.”  By extra level of ‘Friends-ness’ we’re talking some small but important additions to these Pops…

Ross Geller (played by David Schwimmer) comes with Marcel the monkey, Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) comes with ‘the duck’, Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) comes with ‘Yasmine the chick’, Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) sports her iconic ‘Rachel’ do and Central Perk uniform, Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) sports her guitar and adornment of rings while Monica Geller (Courteney Cox) comes in her chef whites.

While all the Friends Pops are quite visual and identifiable, personally, I feel that Monica’s was somewhat off as it was not very often we saw Monica in her chef uniform…”We started Monica in just one of her more regular outfits that you would recognize, but if you take it out of context, it wasn’t as iconic,” says VP of Funko Creative Ben Butcher. “With Phoebe, we tried to get the guitar in there. With Joey and Chandler, they are two regular guys at first … and then we decided to bring the duck and the chick into it.”

As a dedicated long-time Friends fan, some suggestions for a series two – you know, if it was ever to go ahead..,

Spray Tan Ross Geller – Pink bunny suit Halloween Chandler Bing – Ceasers Palace Guard Joey Tribbiani – Alternate reality Merrill Lynch worker Phoebe Buffay – Wedding day Rachel Green and finally…..Fat Monica Geller!

The Friends Funko Pop’s are currently available for pre-order at your local Pop! retailer or through Entertainment Earth with a Feb 2016 release.

Marauder Task Force Wave Two Female Figures Kickstarter Goes Live

The Marauder Task Force Gaming Figures has to be one of the most successful action figure kickstarter campaigns to date.  Their original goal of $30,000 to produce a line of articulated and customizable 3.75″ action figures was smashed with Marauder Gun-Runners reaching just shy of $255,000 for their campaign.

Wave two of the figures has been announced and has gone live on kickstarter featuring an all-female line called The Valkyries and they’ve already surpassed their funding goal of $34,000 (in less than 2 days) with 36 days (as of this post) left to go.

The first wave of figures were a hit with collectors (they fit in perfectly with GI.Joe) featuring great designs from Boss Fight Studio and a fun modular accessory dynamic that allows for near-total customization with interchangeable heads, protective gear and weapons.

This second wave is aiming to achieve the same effect with the removable headgear & vests having “modular” attachment points which provide the ability to “mix & match” the assorted modular equipment as desired. Also, there are “modular” accessory mounting points ON the actual figure. The figures and accessories will be available in assorted colors.

From the campaign: The Marauder Task Force Valkyries action figures feature articulation points at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, thighs, knees, and ankles. Rather than a “mid-chest” articulation point, the articulation point is in the waist. The swivel waist allows for greater movement and, most importantly, will not interfere with the modular vests when in use on the figures.

With Hasbro copping a whacking from the public over the lack of Black Widow/Scarlet Witch action figures, it’s great to see independent productions like Marauders getting into the female action figure game.  While several earlier kickstarter campaigns featuring similar ideas have failed (Agent AnnikaHumanoid YvonneLeigon XIV) Marauders previous and wildly successful outing has proved to be a winner.

Check out some of the base and stretch goal figures below:

As a big fan of the female GI. joe figures, I’ll be watching this kickstarter very closely.  Check out and back this campaign here!
