Season Review: The X-Files Season 10

The X-Files-Season 1-Episode3-1
Spoilers below for those who have not seen ALL 6 episodes!!!

WARNING!!!  SPOILERS LAY BELOW!  DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN ALL 6 EPISODES!!

It’s been a very welcome return for our long time truth hunters who returned to our screen in January after a decade plus long absence.  The shows main hurdle to overcome was whether or not Mulder and Scully could still draw in the audiences it once drew in all those years ago while being reachable to new viewers not overtly familiar with the characters and the show.

When season 10 closed with that insane final episode, I for one, like to say that yes, The  X-Files was able to bring me – a long time fan of the show – back into it’s fold and also welcome in new viewers.  With the revelation that ‘little green men’ do in fact exist and that their alien mechanics had been used for decades to create secret technology and their DNA used to protect chosen ones from an impending global disease crisis, dedicated fans got to travel full circle with Mulder and Scully on their hunt for the truth.

This reveal, in some form, closed the ‘is the truth out there’ book and opened a brand new one revolving around powerful men and the Alien secrets they have been choosing to hide from the public basically transforming what we all knew about The X-Files and the team involved brining back this show did it good.

That’s not to say though that The X-Files return did not come with its flaws.

While many critics applauded the shows quick return to monster-of-the-week flair (episode 3 – Mulder and Scully meet the were-monster) I found that to be one of the series weakest. While the on-screen chemistry between Duchovny and Anderson was stronger than ever, the tongue-in-cheek poke at Mulder and Scully’s monster hunting felt incredibly far fetched with the story of Guy Mann, a lizard to human shape changer that included way too much dialogue and not enough of the dark stuff we had been treated to in the second episode with insane geneticist Augustus Goldman (Melrose Place’s Doug Savant) building genetically enhanced (and disfigured) children.

Episode five introduced two new agents – Agent Miller (Robbie Amell) and the ridiculously named Agent Einstein (Lauren Ambrose) to the fold and went even further south of episode 3 and gave us Mulder, deep in the heart of Texas, boot scootin and line dancing his way through a psychedelic trip that eventually saw him face to face with a comatose bomber.  These two weak episodes felt like a very poor and feeble attempt at recapturing some of the more light hearted and fan favorite episodes of seasons past such as Bad Blood from season 5.

Funnily enough, what critics hated the most, I found to be engaging and very X-Filesey. The cigarette smoking man playing puppet master god, Scully’s alien DNA proving to be a most useful tool, Mulder working with conspiracy theorist Tad O’Malley (Joel McHale), Scully’s former partner Agent Reyes (Annabeth Gish) returning out of the blue to provide a shocking piece of information….this funnily enough is where most felt the X-Files lost it’s way during its original run yet felt like The X-Files.

Annabeth Gish returns in the season 10 finale as Agent Monica Reyes

So how did each episode fare?

Episode One – My Struggle

7 out of 10

THE-X-FILES-10x01-3

The X-Files not only had to re-connect with long time fans but also, draw in new ones and in doing so, produced a lot of information, like mountains of it. From Aliens landing in the 1950’s to how their technology was stripped from them to the semi-annoying Tad O’Malley gobbling up too much screen time to learning about what Mulder and Scully had been up-to since we last saw them.

MVP: Sveta ( Annet Mahendru) was the perfectly eerie and damaged character to bring Mulder and Scully back together. A survivor of multiple abductions, Sveta’s fragility in coming forward with her claims played immensely well into the X-Files lore.

Episode Two – Founders Mutation

8.5 out of 10

 b6b60c2cb49e49dec96e22b33d6ed98e.gif

An almost perfect return to form for the show, the mystery surrounding Mulder and Scully’s son William was answered and the two shared a wonderful amount of screen time together that made us all happy.  Pair this with the mad scientist trying to genetically breed children story line and we have ourselves a fantastic episode.

MVP: Augustus Goldman (Doug Savant) was the bad guy we needed to see early on in the series return.  While for only one episode, his elusiveness to reveal just what he has been up-to provided a much needed creep factor to the show plus, it was great to see Savant play against type.

Episode Three – Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster

3 out of 10

The-X-Files-10x03-9

The weakest of the bunch, Mulder and Scully’s monster hunt episode felt forced and contrived as they hunt for a monster that has been killing and feeding on innocent people. The lame attempt at touching on the humorous side of the show fell flat and produced nothing really new that had not been done before – even Guy Mann’s overtly sexy retelling of his encounter with Scully felt icky.  There was also waaaay too much dialogue – the scene with Mann and Mulder in the cemetery…it needed to end long before it began.

MVP: N/A

Episode Four – Home Again

7 out of 10

X-Files-10x04-6

Another ‘monster-of-the-week’ episode but done very very well.  The gruesome “band-aid nose man” was terrifying and chilling enough to rekindle my love of those episodes from seasons past and Scully’s heartbreak at loosing her mother was equally touching and tear-inducing.

MVP: John DeSantis’s Band-Aid nose man was freaky enough to join the ranks of other well known X-Files monsters such as the Flukeman and Tombs.

Episode Five – Babylon

5 out of 10

lauren-1_0

Mulder and Scully parting ways to try and communicate with a disfigured and comatose bomber was a premise I truly wanted to love but there was too much other stuff getting in the way for me to actually enjoy.  Agent Miller and Einstein proved no real purpose other than to accompany Mulder and Scully on their efforts and Mulder’s drug induced Billy Ray Cyrus trip…I swear you can see in Duchovny’s eyes he’s thinking “What the actual fuck am I doing?”

MVP: David Duchovny only for actually going through with this episode.

Episode Six – My Struggle Part 2

8 out of 10

ojos-de-scully-final-the-x-files-10x06

While this episode once again featured a little bit too much of Tad O’Malley (are people seriously using his web show as their source of nightly news?!) the Scully based episode actually bests the Mulder led episode one in which Scully learns she may hold the cure to the impending global medical disaster.  Even Agents Miller and Einstein were tolerable as they try and help the masses and that final scene…..cliffhanger much?!

MVP: Agent Monica Reyes! So glad to see her back (even though it’s without Robert Patrick’s Agent Doggett) but wasn’t too keen on her portrayed as a weak willed woman who would give in to cigarette smoking man’s demands.

Clearly that final scene with Scully looking into the down-shining lights of the UFO opens up the likelihood of more X-Files episodes.  I’d be more than happy with these short 6-10 episode stints and now with the backstory told, it opens up the ability to give fans a continuation of the X-Files we knew and loved.  Many fans are suggesting that if and when the show returns that creator Chris Carter ‘share the load’ or so to say and not monopolize his control of the show.  bringing in new blood to the world of The X-Files can only be a smart move to keep things fresh.

What did you think of the series?  Agree with my thoughts on each episode of disagree completely and feel that 10×03 was one of the best episodes yet?  Sound off in the comments above!

That X-Files Re-Boot Is Almost Happening!

Drink up! The X-Files is nearing a confirmed return!
Drink up! The X-Files is nearing a confirmed return!

That X-Files reboot news that popped up back in early Jan is reportedly one step closer to actually happening with news coming out that FOX are apparently close to green lighting the revival.

It’s being noted that the network has ordered a ‘short stack’ order for the planned re-boot which could see less than 10 episodes made of the popular sci-fi series that made David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson household names.

Both Anderson and Duchovny have had successful post X-files careers and it’s believed that the hectic work schedule of both stars is part of the reasoning behind the short-stack order (Duchovny’s ‘Aquarius’ is due to premiere soon while Anderson is flitting between Hannibal’s third season and The Fall’s third season).

Along with Gillian and David, creator/writer Chris Carter is back on board and an offer to Mitch Pileggi (Director Skinner) has been made.

Any final say on the re-boot is most likely to come in May when FOX have their planned upfront presentation in New York.

Update: March 24th 2015

FOX has confirmed that Mulder and Scully will officially be returning to our screens searching for little green men!

The six episode series is slated to begin production in June/July with creator Chris Carter describing the shows return as “a 13-year commercial break.  The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

No official run date has been set.

The Return of The X-Files? FOX Says Yes!

Anderson and Duchovny could return to their famous alter-egos!
Anderson and Duchovny could return to their famous alter-egos!

Thanks to the success of 24’s limited run reboot last year, FOX have begun to look at other favorite shows from their back catalog that could also do with a comeback including one small show about little green men.

Fox TV Group chairman Gary Newman has confirmed that talks have begun to look at bringing back sci-fi hit The X-Files starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson – who apparently are all interested in revisiting the characters that kick started their careers (X-Files creator Chris Carter included!)  Another Fox TV Group chairman, Dana Walden, also confirmed that if and when the reboot was to happen, it will be with it’s two main leads in Duchovny and Anderson but was quick to state that no ‘creative’ talks have taken place.

With David prepping for his new series Aquarius and Gillian working in the UK (The Fall) and on the new series of Hannibal timing will be the biggest player in ensuring the project would have any chance to move forward.

The news comes off the back of whispers of a possible limited reboot for Prison Break, but FOX have stated they were in fact, just whispers….for now.

The X-Files became an instant cult classic when it premiered back in 1993, running for more than 200 episodes over nine seasons before ending in 2002.

IWhat do you think?  Would the X-Files work in a limited series format like 24?  Sound off in the comments below!

Emmy Awards 2014

Host Seth Meyers
Host Seth Meyers

Well I don’t know about you, but by the time the final awards were announced, my Emmy’s 2014 score card was looking pretty dire.  Of the main categories this year, Breaking Bad and Modern Family went home winners claiming 9 trophies between the two shows. Breaking Bad deservedly with it’s incredible final season while a few were surprised with Modern Family’s continued award show strength even after 5 seasons…

While Breaking Bad, Modern Family, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jim Parsons have become expected winners, there were a few surprise names called out with BBC series Sherlock and it’s stars Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch taking out the top awards for mini-series and 5 time previous winner Alison Janney winning best supporting actress for the very horrible comedy Mom

https://twitter.com/mickfinney/status/504106252570353665

Check out the list of winners below along with my disastrous score card!

Comedy | Supporting Actor |  My Pick: Tony Hale (VEEP)  /  Winner: Ty Burrel (Modern Family)

Comedy | Supporting Actress | My Pick: Kate Mulgrew (Orange is the New Black)  /  Winner: Alison Janney (Mom)

Comedy | Lead Actor | My Pick: Matt Le Blanc (Episodes)  /  Winner: Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory)

Comedy | Lead Actress | My Pick: Julia Louis-Dreyfus (VEEP)  / Winner: Julia Louis-Dreyfus (VEEP)

Comedy Series | My Pick | Orange is the New Black  /  Winner: Modern Family

Drama | Supporting Actor | My Pick: Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) / Winner: Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad)

Drama | Supporting Actress | My Pick: Lena Headley (Game of Thrones)  /  Winner: Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad)

Drama | Lead Actor | My Pick: Brian Cranston (Breaking Bad) / Winner: Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad)

Drama | Lead Actress | My Pick: Claire Danes (Homeland) / Winner: Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife)

Drama Series | My Pick: Breaking Bad / Winner: Breaking Bad

As you can see, I hang my head low claiming only four correct picks!  Will be interesting to see how the drama category stacks up with this being Breaking Bad’s final year.

Taking the Glitter Away from Vampires. The Strain Reviewed

Sean Astin as Jim Kent. Souce: Supplied
Sean Astin as Jim Kent. Souce: Supplied

Without beating around the bush too much, The Strain (airing Wednesday July 30th on FOX8) resembles a horror movie that may have come out in the mid 1990’s – you know, the kind that went straight to DVD.  I’m not saying it like it’s a bad thing, just that, here, The Strain is purely for scares and gore while only slightly relying on a deeper story-line.

Now that deeper story-line is either about ancient vampires coming to New York or lead character Dr. Ephraim Goodweather’s failing marriage…i’m not to sure as to which as we’re drowned with too much personal information about Ephraim, his distant wife and their son right off the bat.

So just like FX’s creepy disease based Helix, The Strain (also from FX) brings us another biological catastrophe involving the CDC and those affected by a mysterious disease, but unlike Helix where all the action takes place in the isolated Arctic, The Strain takes place in heavily populated New York City.

According to FX, The Strain is about “a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism” and is based on the series of books from Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan (Guillermo del Toro is also credited as the creator, writer and director) where the central character of no-good is, well, he’s the ancient king of Vampires named The Master.

Now the vampires here in The Strain are nothing like you have ever seen before.  Gone are the tweenie glittery human loving creatures we’ve been saturated with of recent times and in their place, creepy hooded monsters that rely on blood seeking and sucking worms over fangs and del Toro (a master in the field of scares and gore) goes to lengths to create a dark and eerie visual that offers up some jump worthy scares.

The cast is pleasant enough to watch and while some of the acting is a bit kitsch and over the top, it fits perfectly into the theme of what we are being offered up….Lord of the Rings star (or Goonies star to me) Sean Astin is there along with Alias’s Mia Maestro and House of Cards actor Corey Stoll taking the lead as Dr. Ephraim Goodweather.

So in the end, Helix stands miles above what The Strain is, but as a show where you don’t really need to think too much and can get a few decent scares and some gross out gore then The Strain should sit nicely into your weekly viewing.

The Strain begins Wednesday July 30th on FOX8.

Review: Extant Pilot Episode

EXTANT+S1+Halle+Berry+(Molly+Woods)+(2)
Halle Berry as Molly Watts in Extant. Source: Provided

After watching the pilot for Halle Berry’s new Extant, there’s no denying that Sci-fi stalwart Steven Spielberg (Extant’s executive producer) has happily put his fingerprints all over this intriguing project.  With hits like Close Encounters of the Third Kind to A.I: Artificial Intelligence, Spielberg has created a neat little niche that when done right, is done really right.

Berry is back on our screens for this first time since 1991 (she was in the Dallas spin-off Knots Landing) playing astronaut Molly Watts who, after returning from a 13 month solo space mission, discovers she’s pregnant.  A case of immaculate conception or something more paranormal? This piece of surprising news for Molly pushes us right back to her solo space mission where we see clues littered about that may or may not offer up some answers.

As noted earlier, Spielberg has his fingers all over this project and themes of robotic children assimilating into society (just like A.I) are explored, namely with Molly and her husband John (ER’s Goran Visnjic) who, unable to conceive naturally, have their very own mechanical and somewhat creepy son named Ethan (Looper’s Pierce Gagnan) who goes from being sweet and adorable to asking to have his batteries recharged and then off to practice his facial emotions in the mirror.

The future that Extant offers up is a very clean cut, simplistic and technologically advanced future, but this future is nothing not seen in Minority Report and other like movies/tv shows and the battery operated child is a little more Chucky than A.I’s David who just wanted to be loved.  In the end, Extant is a little bit Aliens and a little bit A.I mixed together with a dose of Rosemary’s Baby.  It’s watchable and sure, some of the situations are laughable (Molly wanting to completely ignore the fact she somehow got pregnant while in space) but Extant does deliver a hefty dose of “what just happened?

Extant premieres tonight, Channel 10 at 8:30pm.

Sharknado 2 First Look Trailer Online.

Sharknado-trailer

It’s here and it looks just as godawful as the first outing!  The Sharknado 2: The Second One trailer dropped online today and it looks so damn bad that it’s gotta be good.

The sequel to the ‘movie event’ of last year (ahem) once again sees Ian Zeiring and Tara Reid fighting tornado’s spitting out sharks but this time round, the action has been moved to New York City.

Along with Ziering and Reid, other suckers along for the ride include Vivica A Fox, Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath, Kari Wuhrer (Sliders), Judah Friedlander (30 Rock), Andy Dick, Kelly Osbourne, Billy Ray Cyrus and Judd Hirsch and yes, that was Matt Lauer making a cameo too.

For those hanging to see this giant mess, Foxtel announced that we will be gettin Sharknado 2 fast tracked to our screens within minutes of the US.  SyFy channel will air the movie on July 31st at 11:30am with a late-night repeat set for 9:30pm and perfect timing to take part in the numerous Sharknado 2 drinking games that will be sprouting up shortly

Sharknado 2: The Second One airs Thursday July 31st at 11:30am/9:30pm on SyFy Channel.

Show Watch: What to Keep an Eye Out For

Image
Tea’ Leoni in the new CBS drama Madam Secretary

Now that all of the main networks (CBS, NBC, FOX and ABC) and some cable networks (TBS) have given us their new pick-ups for the 2014 Fall season, I’ve trawled through all the trailers (that were available…come on CBS, pull your socks up!) and complied a list of what I think could be ratings hits (like last years The Blacklist) and what could be cult sleepers (Orphan Black anyone?)

Drama:

The Mysteries of Laura (NBC)

The question begs…is this a comedy or is it a drama?  I don’t think NBC really know either hence the somewhat confusing trailer offered up but that said, this Debra Messing led dramedy could have something going for it if you look at it like it could be ‘had Miss Congeniality had a husband and children’ type of way.

Secrets and Lies (ABC)

If you recently watched an Aussie show with the same title, then you’ll have an idea of what to expect.  This Secrets and Lies is based right off our very own production with Ryan Phillippe stepping into Martin Henderson’s shoes playing Ben, a man who finds the body of a little boy and suddenly becomes suspect number one.  Added bonus – a very toned down Juliette Lewis playing cop.

How To Get Away With Murder (ABC)

This will be the fourth major program by Shonda Rhimes to make it’s way to ABC – Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and Private Practice plus How to get Away With Murder and the trailer already looks a whole lot more interesting than the 6 seasons of Private Practice that was given to us.  There’s sex, blackmail, murder and Viola Davis..it’s an easy win.

CSI: Cyber (CBS)

Pilot

There’s no trailer yet but for those who caught Patricia Arquette’s recent guest gig on CSI will have already gotten a taste of what to expect. Yes, it’s another CSI spin-off but this time, it’s all about cyber crime which is very current and ‘hip’ and we all like Patricia Arquette right?

Stalker (CBS)

Granted, I’ve never really been exposed to much of Maggie Q’s work and the premise of her character as being a sort of freelance anti-stalker specialist who knows some hand-to-hand combat skills is a little off but the trailer offered up by CBS actually adds suspense and intrigue of what’s to come.  Ignore Dylan McDermott here, he’s always annoying to begin with and usually takes some warming up to.

Madam Secretary (CBS)

Why CBS chose to give us a trailer that looks like it gives us the entire first episode in the space of five minutes I’ll never understand.  I was excited by this right from Tea’ Leoni’s addition to the cast and while it’s different to see her in such a serious light, the political theme is working well for shows like Scandal and The Good Wife.

State of Affairs (NBC)

I’m wondering if we’ve had enough time to actually like Katherine Heigl again?  I’m still in that mid-swing where i’m starting to come around again and if there are others like me, then hopefully this show will bring us competently back.  Apparently this will have a Blacklist-cum-Homeland-cum-Zero Dark Thirty feel to it (there’s the depiction of Middle Eastern descendants as terrorists – of course) and Alfre Woodward plays the President of the USA.

American Crime (ABC)

Desperate Housewives Alum Felicity Huffman makes her return to series television along with Timothy Hutton in this dark and racially charged legal drama that follows those involved and affected by a murder and ensuing murder trial.

Empire (FOX)

The last time FOX attempted a series based off a mogul and his ’empire’ they gave us SKIN (2003) which only lasted 3 episodes before being cancelled.  Here, instead of porn, Empire gives us music and what i could only assume to be a nod to Lil’ Kim and starring Terrence Howard.  Could Chris Lilley’s S’Mouse fit in here? Probably, but at least it looks better than Skin ever did.

Comedy:

Fresh off the Boat (ABC)

Yes, the title is a bit…..Cougar Town/Trophy Wife (and possibly racist though it depends who you ask) but Fresh Off the Boat looks like the funniest of the new stuff coming our way and while the show is a focus on a Taiwanese family making the adjustment to living the American Dream, clearly Constance Wu (as mum Jessica) is the one to watch for.

The Odd Couple (CBS)

PILOT

It’s been a tough run for Matthew Perry the last few years.  His last handful of projects (Studio 60, Mr. Sunshine and Go On) all tanked and the only thing people really watched him in recently was his guest gig on Courteney Cox’s Cougar Town but now, his fourth attempt at a show could be his lucky gig.  It’s a TV remake of the classic movies (Jack Lemon and Walter Matthou or Tony Randall and Jack Klugman) and see’s Perry teaming up with Thomas Lennon who we last saw in the terribly horrible Sean Saves the World.  I can only assume this will be better than Sean failing to save the world.

Mulaney (FOX)

It’s a little bit Seinfeld, it’s a little bit Friends, it’s a little bit of a 90’s comedy throwback.  Mulaney is an ensemble comedy about a stand-up comedian and the “friends and mentors who lift him up, hold him back and push him around” including Martin Short.  Here’s hoping Short contains his zany like Robin Williams did in The Crazy Ones – but then again, that didn’t turn out so good for him.

Paranormal/Supernatural/Superhero:

The Whispers (ABC)

I was so enamored by Lily Rabe as the Stevie Nicks loving swamp witch Misty Day in AHS Coven that seeing her all professional and business suits is a little shocking but here is in this creepy new paranormal-esque show with creepy kids that clearly see something the adults can’t.

Constantine

Based off the DC Comics Hellblazer series, Constantine follows a supernatural detective who finds himself defending the world from dark and eerie forces.  It’s a little bit Supernatural meets True Blood meets Penny Dreadful.

The Flash (CW)

Spin-off from the cult-ish Arrow and another DC comics star, The Flash get’s his own show and judging by the trailer, die hard comic fans will be pleased with the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance of legendary bad guy ‘Reverse Flash’ plus there’s the addition of The Flash’s alter-ego Barry Allen’s love interest Iris West.

Extant (CBS)

I’ve already talked about Halle’s new sci-fi drama but now Extant has officially been picked up to series by CBS, they’ve given us an extended trailer which also fills us in more on her creepy prophetic child.  A woman on a 13 month solo space mission returns to earth and finds she’s pregnant – impossible right?  Not in space!

So what takes your fancy?  Is there something you’ve seen which I’ve not added to the list – and if you mention the new shyte by TBS…I will shoot you.

Orphan Black Season 2 Continues to Shine.

Image
Paul (Dylan Bruce) finds himself torn between two waring groups Source: Supplied

It’s only been a few short weeks since the end of the awesome Orphan Black season one which aired on SBS2 (thank you!) and now, on Tuesday night, our memberships to the ‘Clone Club’ will earn a gold star as Sarah, Cosima, Alison and the rest of the characters return to our screens for a kicker brand new season.

Season one was all about who the clones were and now, season two will look at who created the clones and just who is the original clone.

When we last checked in, Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany) was standing at her daughter’s bedroom window with the realization that Kira had been kidnapped and needless to say, when Orphan Black returns on Tuesday night, no time is left wasted as Sarah blasts into overdrive to find her kidnapped daughter.

We are literally back with Sarah as she was when we first met her in season one, on the run and separated from her daughter, but this time round the stakes are much higher as we (the viewers) are utterly and wholly invested in Sarah and Kira.

The opening scene alone is filled with so much tension and action – and there’s only four characters involved – and we only know one of them…it’s the perfect opening to continue the head first ride we were dragged along with the first season.

Where the emphasis on Orphan Black’s first season was to identify and individualize each and every clone, we’re now in a comfortable enough place with the clones to focus on developments of certain outer characters in Sarah’s life including Paul (Dylan Bruce), Felix (Jordan Garvais) and Leekie (Matt Frewer) thus closing a glaring void that was very evident in the shows incredible first season.

Felix was the witty sidekick to Sarah’s urban grit, Paul was the ‘is he bad?  Is he good?’ guy and Leekie was your stock standard evil genius who was up-to no good but now that Cosima and Alison and the other clones have been so clearly identified we’re allowed a glimpse into these side players that are playing a bigger part in Sarah’s world than we could have ever imagined.

Tatiana Maslanay as clone Cosima. Source: Provided

But this is not to say there will be any less focus on our favorite clones.  We’ll start to see dynamics change between the three main clones – Sarah, Alison and Cosima, who all find themselves dealing with the fallout of their actions from season one.  Alison is trying to move on with her life, trying to repair her image within her picture perfect white picket fence neighborhood, Cosima is torn between her love for Delphine and trying to find a cure to her illness while Sarah wants answers….but it she looking in the right direction?

Continuing in this second season, is the subtle touches of intentional light humor scattered among each episode.  From Alison’s shining moment in a community theater production to Felix’s positively on spot outfit choices to a moment between Sarah and a child on a bus – it’s evident these glimmers of light have become an integral part of the show allowing a slice away from the full force of darkness and intensity.

Orphan Black never really stopped hitting all the right marks in season one.  There was always something happening, something being revealed, something to grab your attention and force you to watch the next episode and after watching the first four episodes of season two, this fearlessness to give doesn’t stop.

Orphan Black season 2 begins Tuesday Night, 8:30pm – April 22nd on SBS 2 or for those who can’t wait till then, is now available via SBS on demand now!
