AMC’s ‘yet-to-be-titled’ companion series of it’s number one show The Walking Dead is off to a solid start with the network ordering straight up – two series right off the bat.

Set in Los Angeles, the unnamed show will focus on a new set of characters, looking at the onset of epidemic that wiped out millions of people and turned them into zombies with the shows first season set to consist of six hour long episodes premiering on AMC in late Winter (probably August).

“We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the number one show on television. From the beginning of ‘The Walking Dead’ on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’ Through this new series, we’re going to find out,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “Robert Kirkman, Dave Erickson and their writing team, along with an incomparable set of producers, cast and crew have created something remarkable and clearly distinct. We respectfully follow the request of Monty Python as we bring out (the latest of) our Dead.”

“We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC,” Kirkman said. “I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we’ve accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story. I’m very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to ‘The Walking Dead.’”

The series will star Cliff Curtis (“Missing,” “Gang Related”), Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, “Sons of Anarchy”), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm).

The Walking Dead Season 5 First Sneak Peek Clip

the-walking-dead-season-5-christian-serratos-alanna-masterson-andrew-j-west-amc

Now this is just being mean.  We’re salivating here, hoping for any news or tidbits about what to expect when The Walking Dead returns for it’s fifth season only to be given a very short clip that leaves us screaming WE WANT MORE!!!

During the Talking Dead season preview special that aired on AMC, a small 30 second clip from the premiere episode of season five was shown, smashing us right into zombie territory with Carol (Martina McBride), Tyreece (Chad Coleman) and baby Judith on the run.

So we now know that Carol, Tyreece and Judith have not yet made it to Terminus and that obviously, they’ll be blind as to what has happened to Rick, Darryl, Maggie and the rest of the gang – with exception to Beth whom no one knows where she is (or if she is even still alive).

AMC also announced via twitter that the first full trailer for season 5 will drop online July 25th!

“We’re counting down to the release of #TheWalkingDead Season Five trailer 7/25. RT to win a #20DaysofDead prize pack!” tweeted The Walking Dead AMC.

Sadly, there’s still four months until the show’s return in October.

Walking Dead Season Four Finale

Image

Well it’s almost here, The season four finale of The Walking Dead is just around the corner and it’s all about the mysterious Terminus.

Over the course of the second half of season 4, our band of survivors have seen scattered about the Georgia countryside, massive signs saying  “TERMINUS: All who arrive survive” and of course, with shelter and protection at an all time low, Terminus sounds like the hope they all have been searching for.

Last weeks episode saw Glenn, Maggie, Tara, Abraham, Rosita and Eugene all make safe entrance into Terminus, though the fact the entrance was unlocked and the refuge eerily empty leaves us to wonder just how safe Terminus is?

Fans were also quick to piece some possible puzzle pieces together involving Terminus and Mary (the first person they encountered within Terminus) and the house full of dead bodies Rick, Michonne and Carl stumbled across.

1010118_10203678996321694_455673111_n

Is Mary the woman in the blood splattered painting?

In a series of clips aired on New Zealand TV, it’s been shown that Rick’s group (Michonne and Carl) also make it to Terminus, but it doesn’t take long for things take a turn for the worse..

So along with the possible Mary and that painting connection, there have been a few other and wildly popular theories that have been sprouting up as to what to expect for the finale.

Terminus is full of cannibals!:  In the comic series, Rick’s group come across a pack of cannibals called The Hunters and fans have been waiting for them to possibly appear and with Glenn’s group meeting Mary while she was cooking something on the BBQ, many are believing this is the Hunters compound.

Terminus is safe but attacked:  Another theory is that Terminus is safe, Mary is harmless and all is good….until Joe and his group (along with Darryl) arrive leaving some to think Darryl will have to make a choice between the two groups he has formed alliances with.

The Governor is still alive!: This one is a bit far fetched, considering we saw the guy obliterated with a bullet to the head, but some fans are saying that the Governor is alive and Terminus is his new Woodbury.

Either way, Danai Gurira (Michonne) says that all the theories she’s seen are wrong.  “I’ve read all predictions and none of them are right,” she told Digital Spy. “No one’s going to be able to figure out this ending – so it’s going to be a really exciting thing to watch people respond to!”

And, in typical Walking Dead finales, can we expect a character to be killed off?  Usually, side or bit characters have been given the exit but lately, more prominent characters have been killed off – Andrea and Hershel.

The Walking Dead Delves into Dark Territory

Image
Things get tough for Tyreece on The Walking Dead Copyright © 2014 AMC Networks Inc

It’s funny how six single words “She can’t be around other people” can take a show to such a place where there is no turning back.

Ever since the explosive mid season finale of The Walking Dead, things have felt a bit displaced and very slow at moving the story along and with the survivors split up into several groups, we were beginning to feel a bit cheated about not seeing certain beloved characters for weeks on end

Then ‘The Grove’ episode came along and gave us one of the most darkest and torturing episodes of The Walking Dead we’ve seen to date.

I’ve been questioning for a while now just what exactly Lizzie’s end game was in The Walking Dead ever since she began earning more and more screen time.  I knew there was something big planned for the character as she was featured quite regularly early on in the season and honestly felt, in the mid-season finale when she killed Tara’s girlfriend (which saved Tyreece’s life) we had reached her end point.

Guess I was wrong.

We were informed of the fact that Lizzie was damaged before the world changed, a fact which, we were blind to due to the chaotic nature of the world around them.  Her inability to note a difference between human and walker were cast off as ‘childish thoughts’ and as time progressed, the evil within Lizzie’s mind was allowed to bloom.  Walkers were not bad, they were just different and in her mind, she had to prove to everyone how this is so.

You have to feel for Carol.  After loosing Sophia and then taking Mika and Lizzie under her wing, plus dealing with the secret of killing David and Karen, not only was this episode Lizzie’s end game, but it was also Carol’s new beginning.

Mika’s death drove the show into dark territory in which the callousness behind this killing is something not explored within the show. Sure The Governor was a few stubbies short of a six pack but he killed in order to exert his dominance and for purposes of revenge. Mika on the other hand was murdered, by her own sister, just to prove a point – that walkers are just different.

The Grove was an episode mixed with the perfect amount of hope and madness and how this will translate to the last two episodes of this current season and into the next is still unknown.

There’s no denying that there has been some shocking and incredible “OMG” moments this year on television.  From Game of Thrones to The Walking Dead and Pretty Little Liars, these moments immediatley incur bouts of crying, laughing, anger, yelling and everything in between.  Check out my list of my top OMG moments from 2013!

RICK SENDS CAROL PACKING: The Walking Dead

20131103_100938_walkingdead1103

After admitting to Rick (Andrew Lincoln) that she was the one who killed Karen and Dave, Rick takes it upon himself to tell Carol (Melissa McBride), while out on a supply run, that she is no longer welcome to stay with the survivors within the camp grounds.   We’ve seen Carol, who has been a member of the group from the beginning, emerge as a strong player this season and Rick’s decision and her subsequent absence split fans right down the line.

TRAVIS AND LAURIE KISS: Cougar Town

tumblr_mm82l7T3KU1r6r1abo1_500

Travis (Dan Byrd) and Laurie (Busy Phillips) have always had a fun and flirty kind of relationship, but it’s always been that one where the guy likes the girl more than vice versa but when Laurie decides to explore her growing feelings for the teenage son of her best friend, it results in a rather awkward feeling kiss between the two.  We’d all been hanging for Travis to finally get his, but now it’s happened, most of us were wishing it didn’t.

THE BIG TWIST: Homeland

92538-carrie-and-saul-in-homeland-season-3

Well were we all not played for fools!  Here we all are bitching and moaning about how bad Homeland had become.  We couldn’t figure out why or where such a great show had gone wrong.  Brody (Damien Lewis) was MIA and Saul (Mandy Patinkin) had Carrie (Claire Danes) committed to an asylum and we were getting too much focus on Dana only to have it all turn around and be revealed that Saul and Carrie were in fact working together all along in a bid to draw out a foe that could become an ally.

ASHLEY MARIN HITS DETECTIVE WILDEN WITH HER CAR: Pretty Little Liars

Screen_Shot_2012-10-10_at_5.06.05_PM

Poor Ashley Marin (Laura Leighton) found herself on the receiving end of some unwanted harassment from an overly inquisitive Detective Wilden (Bryce Johnson) who demands that her daughter Hannah (Ashley Benson) keeps quiet about an indiscretion she witnessed involving him and a young lady.  never one to listen to demands, Ashley finds herself in a screaming match with Wilden before suddenly putting her foot to the pedal and throwing him over the bonnet of her car before speeding off!

THAT TAMPON SANDWICH: Orange Is The New Black

tampon-sandwich

New inmate Piper learnt the tough way not to piss off the lady who rules the prison kitchen!  When word get’s back to prison chef Red (Kate Mulgrew) that Piper (Taylor Schilling) has been less than impressed with the food on offer, Red takes it upon herself to ensure that Piper will never make comments like that again by serving her up a bloody tampon sandwich!  The scene itself was highly unsettling and intentionally confronting.

DEBRA MORGAN DIES: Dexter

Dexter-s8-ep12-Dexter-with-Deb-as-she-dies-in-hospital

In the series finale, we knew someone was going to die.  Most of us expected it to be Dexter, or even Hannah, perhaps Quinn…it was never meant to be Dexter’s sister Deb.  After being involved in a shoot out with Oliver Saxon, Deb is wounded and is rushed to hospital.  The doctors all seems to think all should be ok but complications following the surgery lead Deb to have suffer a massive stroke leaving her in a permanent vegetative state.  It’s here Dexter lands the final blow, removing Deb off her life support effectively killing her.

RAYMOND DENIES BEING LIZ’S FATHER: The Blacklist

blacklist102813c

It’s the theory that everyone seems to have – Raymond Reddington (James Spader) is actually Elizabeth Keen’s (Megan Boone’s) birth father.  It’s been hinted at right from the get go…his selecting her to be the only one he deals with, his wanting to know more about her life, his knowing certain things about her husband, but in the closing scenes of the final episode of the first series, Liz flat out asks Red over the phone “Are you my father?” to which Red replies “No.”

THE BOMB: Home and Away

1472785_10151715349196612_858623555_n

Known for it’s annual end of year shake-up, Home and Away offered up one heck of an explosion involving fan favourites and unexpected faces and leaving us not knowing who has survived.  After continuously butting heads with her boss Bianca (Lisa Gormley) and Bianca’s husband Heath (Dan Ewing) Jade (Tasma Walton) decides to get her revenge in the form of a bomb placed inside Bianca’s laptop bag.  We then spent the whole episode wondering when the bomb will go off as the bag changes hands numerous times before going off inside the hospital in which pregnant Ricky (Bonnie Sveen) is being treated.  Irene (Lynne Mcgranger), Bianca, Heath and Doctor Nate Cooper (Kyle Pryor) are also there when the bomb goes off.

HELENA CUTS OFF OLIVER’S TAIL: Orphan Black

500x1000px-LL-f5857f6a_sp3220130513131519

Things got a bit weird when it was revealed Neolution club owner and believer in self-directed evolution Oliver (David Richmond-Peck) was actually sporting a real life tail.  After coming to Sarah’s (Tatiana Maslany) aid while in a fight with Oliver, psychotic clone Helena wins the upper hand and swiftly chops Oliver’s tail off…then makes her way back to the dancefloor to partake in a rather ghastly dance with said tail still in her hands.

TULLY CHEATS ON HER GIRLFRIEND: Big Brother

600487-c47cf89e-3ac1-11e3-a826-323d4d841c99

Fun and funky social media expert and lesbian Tully quickly turned into a sullen and sobbing mess after entering the Big Brother house.  She missed her girlfriend Tahlia but thankfully she had housemate Drew to lean on and talk to.  Quickly though that talking turned into sleeping in the same bed and sharing sneaky kisses when suddenly the two swapped secret “I love you” bombs leading to Tahlia to make a very public break-up via twitter.

MATT AND KIM’S FIRST ROOM REVEAL: The Block

49

Not ones to be left hidden among the pack, West Australian couple Matt and Kim had planned to something controversial when it came to styling their first room – the guest bedroom.  Their inspiration?  Artist Jackson Pollock, he of the abstract expressionist movement (or paint splash era).  While the final result was clearly shocking, it was more ‘kids gone wild’ than Pollock admiration.

THE RED WEDDING: Game Of Thrones

game-thrones-red-wedding

I don’t watch Game of Thrones, but even I found myself on YouTube watching the events that led to THAT video going viral showing fans reactions to the wedding as it aired.  While I may have no idea who was who or why everyone was being killed, but the red wedding sure stuck to it’s name after half the people in the room celebrating were slaughtered, including a very heavily pregnant woman!  “May the rivers run red with the blood of the non-believers.”

The Walking Dead: Woodbury 2.0

Image

Can you imagine how happy I was to discover we were in store for another Governor centric episode of The Walking Dead?  Two in a row!  I want to ask the writers if we, as viewers, had done anything wrong.  Had we pissed you off? Granted after watching this second episode, I understand why we had to revisit the Governor, but in reality, did we need two whole episodes?

So picking up from last weeks closer, The Governor (or Brian as it turns out his name is) along with Lilly, Tara and Megan join Martinez’s camp.  There seems to be some decent muscle within the group and enough ammo to ensure their safety.  It all seems pretty peachy until The Governor realizes his past may come back to haunt him thanks to former right hand man Martinez.  It’s funny how, in a zombie apocalypse, a game of golf can turn deadly.  One minute you’re wolfing down whisky, hitting golf balls off the top of a camper-van, the next you’re getting whacked over the head with a 9 iron and being fed to a bunch of walkers.

It’s here all the work of last weeks episode of trying to convince us that The Governor has turned a new leaf come undone as the diseased animal within him begins to yearn for leadership again and return to the ways of Woodbury and that means taking no prisoners and killing those that may step in his way.  He wants a Woodbury 2.0.

Now The Governor is back in his element, standing above the camp survivors, ensuring all see him as their only hope for survival. He puts them all to good use, building fences and whatnot but his plan to try and move the camp to ‘safer’ grounds needs that one final push – cue a walker inside the camp.  Clearly The Governor planted the walker. The immediate threat of death was the perfect example to ensure there would be no hesitation from any member to move camp.

So where could be the perfect safe place for the Governor and his new camp?  The prison of course!  He’s been staking it out.  I wonder if he was surprised how well the place has held up since his last attack on the place?  Anyways we see him spying on Rick….who’s farming of course.  He also happens across Hershel and Michonne….I think.  It someone who looks like Michonne but she’s smiling so clearly it’s not actually Michonne.

After playing his own version of Spy Games, The Governor heads back and informs his peeps that he’s found their next camp.

Next week’s episode is sadly the mid season finale.  It seems there’s a turf war between the two camps, and someone brings along a tank for good measure.  I bet Rick is wishing he hadn’t sent Carol packing now.

The Walking Dead: Wrong Thing To Ask

Image
Gene Page/AMC

These character centric episodes where NONE of the main cast are featured really do annoy me.  Not only do they not push any sort of story line along, they are also usually a bore.  At exactly 27 minutes into the episode, my boyfriend turned to me and said “What an effing drag”.  My point exactly.

It’s like that episode of Homeland recently where it was all about Brody.  Not much really happened, the main story line was halted and your’e just left there thinking “What has happened to this show?”  But unlike Homeland, this episode of The Walking Dead (Season 4, episode 6 titled ‘Live Bait’) has tried to make the bad guy of the show look like a hero, and I for one am not buying it.

Just to remind you, here’s a quick recap of the Governor’s antics last season:

*His zombified daughter kept chained up in a secret closet

*Testing done on walkers to find a cure

*His personal collection of Zombie memorabilia – namely heads

*The murder of innocent survivors in camps so as to claim supplies

*He arranged attacks on the prison

*He basically killed Andrea.

*He mindlessly murdered his own townfolk

*He almost got Daryl killed.

Shall I go on?

There is nothing redeemable about this man, yet, judging by this episode, we’re supposed to feel for him and hope he does well in his travels.  Sad thing is, we know where he eventually ends up – outside the prison but, we don’t know who he has with him.

So long recap short, the Governor is alive, he’s practically broken.  Walking around aimlessly working a beard Jaoquin Phoenix would be proud of before stumbling across a family of survivors in an apartment block.  There’s tension, a chick with a gun, requests for help, a bonding session with a little girl, awkward sex in the back of a truck and a run from walkers and then here we are at the end of the episode with another blast from the past, the Governor’s former right hand man Martinez looking down at him.

I don’t know what else to say.  Single handedly was the worst episode to date. Beats any episode where Daryl isn’t in a sleeveless vest.

I wonder how Carol is going?

The Walking Dead: I Spy With My One Eye

Image
Maggie storms the quarantined zone

After spending almost the entirety of the last episode away from the prison, this episode (titled ‘Internment’) brings us back to the prison and those struggling to deal with threat of death on the outside (the walkers clawing at the fences) and the the threat of death on the inside (that dreaded killer flu).

We start of with Rick driving.  He’s alone of course after sending Carol packing.  We get some overtly close-up shots of his brooding eyes, his bandaged hand and the watch Carol gave him.  I’m sure these are some sort of metaphor but I’m still smarting over Carol’s forced exit to really care…plus Rick’s eyes are too broody.

Back in the farm prison, Hershel, Glenn and Sasha act out scenes from Greys Anatomy with a man named Henry who is on the brink of death.  I’m pretty sure words like ‘myocardial infarction’  and ‘severe haematoma’ were used while Hershel shoves a breathing tube down Henry’s throat to keep Henry alive.  Afterwards, while doing ’rounds’, Hershel and Glenn discover someone we don’t care about his died.  They decide to move him to another location before stabbing him in the head so as to not upset the others but not before little Lizzie pops up (she’s like an annoying Velma from Scooby Doo, always snooping around) asking questions.

The amount of screen time Lizzie is getting surely leaves one to ask “what’s her end game?”  She’s being built up more than seasonal veterans like Beth…I’m actually hoping though it’s not a bad end for her.  Anyways, Maggie and Hershel have an emotional chat through the glass divider about Glenn and her wanting to come in and help.  Hershel gently cuts her down and she decides to focus her pent up sexual anger on the mass of walkers at the fence.  It seems like a never ending f*ckery of stabbing. Thankfully though, Rick and Carol arrive to help out…you know the old saying ‘many hands make quick work!’  Oh but wait….Rick sent Carol packing.  Hmm….

You all know I ain’t on Team Rick.  I’m the anti-Rick.  Maggie on the other hand is head cheerleader for team Rick. She agree’s he did the right thing by sending away a healthy and strong woman who is also great with a gun.  Idiots.  Rick decides that Maggie should be fine fending off the walkers by herself and visits the kids quarantined area.  He talks to Carl about needing to shield him from the horrors of the world (let’s just forget about Carl killing walkers and that one kid in the forest) and basically sends him off to the naughty corner.

It’s been sometime since any action has happened so we head back to the infected zone (or Grey-Sloan Memorial for Greys fans) where Hershel is visiting patients, checking on the very sick Doctor Caleb (not McDreamy or McSteamy – maybe McSneezy?) who has made some IV bags to help the sick and then moving around to ensure all the cell doors are closed.  We gets scenes where it seems the same woman always has her cell door open (born in a tent much?) and a passed out Sasha who comes to thanks to the use of the IV bags (god bless McSneezy)

While helping characters we know, those we don’t are slowly one by one, dying off and turning into walkers.  Now it’s time for the usual all out Zombie attack.  Inside while Glenn is choking on his own snot and blood, Hershel is fending off those who have turned while outside, the fence has finally given in and the walkers are chasing Rick and Carl, who have taken shelter inside a small room. Cue lots of stabbing and chewing of necks and blood.  Then in a scene right out of Last Action Hero (remember that terrible movie from the 90’s where some little kid becomes a sidekick to Arnie?) Rick and Carl pick up some rather large guns and go nuts on the walkers who have made their way into the prison grounds.

On the inside, Maggie channels her inner Jack Nicholson and attempts to use an axe to break through into the infected zone, but with no luck.  Eventually she breaks in through the glass divider and runs to Glenn’s aid who has managed to stave off completely choking to death.

Once all is done and all the walkers killed off, Darryl, Michonne, Tyreese and Bob arrive.  Great timing.  They don’t really offer much though, well except for life saving animal medicine.  Finally, it looks like the evil of this first half of the season (the flu) has been eradicated.  It’s just a shame that killer the flu has been replaced with the killer Governor who is seen looking on with his one good eye, from the safety of the bush-land outside the prison grounds. DUN DUN DUN!!
