A is For Answers in Pretty Little Liars Summer Finale

pretty-little-liars-the-betrayal-suspect-tracker2

There’s some worry floating about the world of Pretty Little Liars as it leads up-to it’s massive summer finale being touted as THE episode to give us all the answers to all the questions we’ve been asking over the past five years.

The worry being “we’ve been down this road before” where we were all told we’d finally find out the identity of A – the faceless stalker harassing Spencer, Emily, Aria, Hanna, Alison and their parents – during the season five finale only to have some random named Charles thrown at us as an answer leaving many many many fans frustrated at once again having another question awaiting an answer.

In the past 6 seasons, the only major questions that have been answered include – Melissa was black swan, Alison was actually alive the whole time and Mona was the first of Big A’s helpers…it’s not much when you look back at 6 seasons worth of unknowing.

I must admit, I’ve been wavering with my dedication to the show backing up from the revelation A-is-Charles-but-who-the-heck-is-Charles storyline.  Concerned with the amount of unanswered questions that continuously pop up, the finger pointing at possible secret identities only to have them washed away with the introduction of another secret identity…it’s only my loyalty to Laura Leighton (Ashley Marin) that had kept me continuing on with the show, but show creator I. Marlene King is telling us all to put aside our worries….

There you have it – It’s NO lie, answers are coming to questions that have been asked throughout the past 6 seasons of the show.  “Who is Charles?  Who killed Toby’s mom?  Who hit Alison in the head with the rock the night she went missing? Who is Red Coat?  Who killed Bethany?  Who is the Black Widow?  Why has ‘A/Charles’ been targeting the liars all this time?

And while the answers are coming, they too bring with them the possibility of disappointment – especially with something that has been built up so much and for so long.  The identity of A/Charles has been the driving force behind the show and fans won’t accept some new character (like Sara, Rhys or Leslie) to be our main protagonist which begs the question….

“Who is Charles and who will make us happy to be revealed as Charles?”

As evidenced by the last episode (6×09) none of our main liars could be Charles, neither could Toby, Ezra or Caleb (they’re all at the prom) and our mom’s – Ashley, Ella, Pam and Veronica can be ruled out too (as they are currently locked in the DiLaurentis’ basement – and Charles is Alison and Jason’s sibling).  Characters like Wren, Lucas, Mike, Jenna and Paige have all played along throughout the show but will we be satisfied with a secondary character claiming ownership of such a big part of the show?

Pretty Little Liars has a lot riding on this episode with literally millions of people worldwide investing 5 years into this show leading up-to this episode that is revealing ALL.  I’m hopeful Marlene and the writers will produce some well thought out answers that not only work but also make sense.

For me – answer wise – I’m leaning towards Wren or Lucas being A/Charles, Jenna being redcoat and Ashley Marin as the Black Widow secretly working against A/Charles..

Tell me your thoughts and predictions for A/Charles, Red coat and Black Widow in the comments!

Pretty Little Liars Renewed for Seasons 6 and 7

Laura Leighton stars as Ashley Marin in Pretty Little Liars

Just before season 5 begins (there’s now less than an hour to the premiere) ABC Family have given their crazily popular teen drama the networks first ever multi-season pick-up announcing that Pretty Little Liars will be back for a sixth and seventh season which will see the show on our screens in 2016.

The show, which stars Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Tyler Blackburn, Lucy Hale, Ian Harding, Laura Leighton, Shay Mitchell, Janel Parrish and Sasha Pieterse has been the networks number one series in total viewers and holds the record as the most-tweeted scripted series telecast of all time, it has generated the highest average number of tweets per episode (675,000) of any TV series during the 2013-2014 broadcast season.

Season 5 begins shortly (in the USA) and picks up right where season 4 left off with Ezra suffering a gun shot wound by A and Alison rejoining the girls while her mother was being buried alive.

Season 5 begins in Australia, Friday the 13th on FOX8.

Tyler Blackburn Returning to Pretty Little Liars

Tyler Blackburn will be back as Caleb Rivers in Pretty Little Liars

ABC Family announced today that Tyler Blackburn will be returning to hit teen drama Pretty Little Liars after the cancellation of the drama spin-off Ravenswood in which Blackburn headlined.

Blackburn will be making a return to Rosewood early in the fifth season, back as a season regular though no real details have been released as to how and when his character – Caleb Rivers, will make his return, though Caleb is expected to be back in the lives of ex girlfriend Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson) and her mother Ashley Marin (Laura Leighton).

What this means for Hanna and her relationship with Caleb remains unknown.  Since Caleb’s departure, Hanna hit a downward spiral and has been showing romantic interests in both Travis Hobbs (Luke Kleintank) and Detective Gabriel Holbrook (Sean Faris) much to her mothers dismay.

Pretty Little Liars executive producer Oliver Goldstick would only say that “it’s a lovely reunion.

ABC Family cancelled Ravenswood on Feb 14th after a lackluster first season that saw the spin-off fail to reach the same highs as Pretty Little Liars.

Pretty Little Liars Season 4 finale airs next Tuesday on ABC Family

Pretty Little Liars currently airs Friday nights on FOX8 in Australia.

ABC Family Cancel’s PLL Spin-Off Ravenswood

Image

It was supposed to be the next big show for ABC Family.  On paper, it should have been.  A spin-off from the networks biggest show Pretty Little Liars with the added bonus of lead Caleb Rivers (Tyler Blackburn – a PLL favourite) moving from Rosewood to Ravenswood to investigate a mysterious curse that prey’s on the towns teenagers and created by Marlene King…it should have worked but ABC Family announced that after just one season, Ravenswood will not return.

Launched in October last year following the annual PLL Halloween episode, Ravenswood failed to capitalize on the dedicated fanbase and online social presence PLL has a stronghold on.  Most fans seem unable to connect with the show and felt the spin-off had nothing to do with PLL and was in a completely different genre.

The fictional town of Ravenswood featured in the first half of season four of Pretty Little Liars and saw a regular cross-over of main and supporting characters making appearances in the town, but the addition of supernatural elements in the show [Ravenswood]  made Ravenswood seem like a complete 360 on what many were expecting the spin-off to be.

No word on what this means for Tyler Blackburn and a return to the hit teen drama, though I’m assuming fans will be begging PLL creator Marlene King to bring him back to Rosewood and reunite him with his on screen girlfriend Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson)

Ravenswood’s Feb 4th episode also acted as the season closer and series finale.

The cancellation was first reported by TVLINE

While Pretty Little Liars airs Friday nights on FOX8 in Australia, Ravenswood was never picked up by an Australian network.

Ravenswood Announces it’s First Cast Member

Ravenswood, the newly created spin-off series from hit teen drama Pretty Little Liars has been given it’s first cast member and it’s a Pretty Little Liars favorite.

Caleb Rivers, played by actor Tyler Blackburn, is headed to the new series that is scheduled to premiere right after the annual PLL Halloween special in October and will see Caleb’s PLL and Ravenswood story-lines intertwine.

Boyfriend of Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson), Caleb will be seen heading to Ravenswood in the Halloween special and will continue on into the new series premiere.  It has been stated that Blackburn will still be seen in PLL during the fourth season before officially moving to Ravenswood in October, but how this will affect Caleb’s relationship with Hanna?  Only time will tell.

Perhaps we may even see Hanna and her protective mother Ashley (Laura Leighton) heading to Ravenswood every now and again?

Pretty Little Liars returns for it’s fourth season premiere Tuesday June 11th on ABCFamily.

Pirates Close in on Game Of Thrones

Image

In a bid to thwart illegal downloading of it’s television shows, FOXTEL movie Channel SHOWTIME last night, fast-tracked the first episode in series three of the popular ‘Game Of Thrones’ just a mere two hours after it was aired in the US.

Despite their best effort, there seems to be a lot of Aussies who couldn’t wait that long with pirating website Torrent Freak claiming that this first episode of season three was downloaded illegally more than 1 million times worldwide, with Australians grabbing the highest download rate per capita with 9.9% of downloads heading our way, largely in-part to residents in Melbourne and Sydney.

The season three opener rated extremely well for SHOWTIME, with 224,000 people tuning in to watch (It’s highest ratings to-date).  FOXTEL’s Executive Director of Television Brian Walsh stated “Last night’s brilliant result for Game of Thrones is a true testament to Foxtel’s commitment to bringing our audience award-winning high quality drama they can watch with the rest of the world.”

But what about those who do not have access to payTV services?  Music and video software iTunes made the this first episode available to Australians to purchase by 2am this morning, and since the show’s full-season pass (which was available to customers on March 15th) it has been in the number 1 spot on the iTunes TV charts, one would think that there is quite a demand for the legal downloading of television shows.

This demand, however, could only be warranted if the airing of a television show in the US was simultaneous with a release online here in Australia.  This is largely due to the boom of social network sites like Facebook and Twitter.  Says editor of popular enterainment website IGN.com Lucy O’Brien who spoke with News.com.au, “There are few shows that hold so much appeal to both a niche nerdom and a much broader audience – we’re talking brilliantly-written high fantasy here peppered with sex and violence – and these fans want to join in on the conversation as soon as it starts; with their friends, with other fans, on forums, in comment sections and on social media.”

“A delay, even a 48-hour one, prevents Australians from doing that. And that’s a problem.”

A prime example of this is the massive teen drama Pretty Little Liars starring Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson and Laura Leighton.  The show airs on a Tuesday night on the ABC Family network in the US and is screened on FOX8 here in Australia (Season 3 finished in the US 2 weeks ago [24 episodes], FOX8 has recently aired episode 12).  That said, fans of the show here in Australia would have been hard-damned to not come across any finale spoilers on Twitter as during the season three cliffhanger finale, Pretty Little Liars became the first ever show to amass more than 1 million live tweets.

While pirating may be rife, Game of Thrones’ director Michael Lombardo doesn’t seem too fazed about the illegal downloading of his show.  Last month he admitted that piracy compliments sales rather than hurting them.  Co-director David Petrarca stated at a WA university last month that the show thrives on “cultural buzz” via social media.  “That’s how they survive,” he said.

Welcome to Ravenswood via Rosewood

Image

ABC Family’s ‘Pretty Little Liars’ is, after four seasons, getting it’s own spin-off.  The network announced on March 26th, that the mega-hit show would be getting a spin-off entitled “Ravenswood”.  Shortly after the announcement, the network offered a small trailer and the following synopsis:

“Not far from Rosewood, Pennsylvania (the home base of Pretty Little Liars) a deadly curse has plagued the citizens of a town called Ravenswood for generations, and the curse is about to strike again. Five strangers suddenly find themselves at the mercy of this fatal curse, so they dig into the town’s mysterious and terrible history before it’s too late for all of them.”

Show front-runner Marlene King is also keeping quiet on details, tweeting “We can’t tell you who’s in it yet.  Like Rosewood, Ravenswood has dark secrets. #Ravenswood.”

The cast and how Ravenswood will spin-off from Pretty Little Liars is not yet known with  Imdb.com is still yet to list the show in it’s database.

Along with this news, it was also announced that ‘Pretty Little Liars‘ was given the gift of an early season 5 order – before season 4 has even aired.  The show remains the number one watched program on the ABC Family network and easily maintains it’s targeted audience of the female 12-34 demographic.

Ravenswood will premiere on ABC Family directly after the highly anticipated Pretty Little Liars annual Halloween episode in October this year.

How do you think Ravenswood will spin-off from Pretty Little Liars?
