AMC’s ‘yet-to-be-titled’ companion series of it’s number one show The Walking Dead is off to a solid start with the network ordering straight up – two series right off the bat.

Set in Los Angeles, the unnamed show will focus on a new set of characters, looking at the onset of epidemic that wiped out millions of people and turned them into zombies with the shows first season set to consist of six hour long episodes premiering on AMC in late Winter (probably August).

“We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the number one show on television. From the beginning of ‘The Walking Dead’ on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’ Through this new series, we’re going to find out,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “Robert Kirkman, Dave Erickson and their writing team, along with an incomparable set of producers, cast and crew have created something remarkable and clearly distinct. We respectfully follow the request of Monty Python as we bring out (the latest of) our Dead.”

“We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC,” Kirkman said. “I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we’ve accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story. I’m very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to ‘The Walking Dead.’”

The series will star Cliff Curtis (“Missing,” “Gang Related”), Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, “Sons of Anarchy”), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm).

AMC have offered up the first two minutes of the Walking Dead’s upcoming midseason premiere and by the looks of things, our (not so) merry band of zombie survivors are headed towards some dark times.

The Walking Dead Season 5 First Sneak Peek Clip

Now this is just being mean.  We’re salivating here, hoping for any news or tidbits about what to expect when The Walking Dead returns for it’s fifth season only to be given a very short clip that leaves us screaming WE WANT MORE!!!

During the Talking Dead season preview special that aired on AMC, a small 30 second clip from the premiere episode of season five was shown, smashing us right into zombie territory with Carol (Martina McBride), Tyreece (Chad Coleman) and baby Judith on the run.

So we now know that Carol, Tyreece and Judith have not yet made it to Terminus and that obviously, they’ll be blind as to what has happened to Rick, Darryl, Maggie and the rest of the gang – with exception to Beth whom no one knows where she is (or if she is even still alive).

AMC also announced via twitter that the first full trailer for season 5 will drop online July 25th!

“We’re counting down to the release of #TheWalkingDead Season Five trailer 7/25. RT to win a #20DaysofDead prize pack!” tweeted The Walking Dead AMC.

Sadly, there’s still four months until the show’s return in October.

In not so surprising news, The AMC network announced that it’s number one show, The Walking Dead has been renewed for a fifth season.  We knew it was coming, it was just a case of when the announcement was going to be made and as AMC president, Charlie Collier,  said in a statement “We are very happy to make what has to be one of the most         anti-climactic renewal announcements ever: ‘The Walking Dead’ is renewed for a fifth season

This is a show that has erased traditional distinctions between cable and broadcast. Its expanding base of passionate fans has grown every season, most recently — and most notably — with the season four premiere earlier this month, which broke viewership records for the series and became the biggest non-sports telecast in cable history. On behalf of the incredible team on both sides of the camera, thank you to the fans and here’s to more ‘Dead.’

Since it’s return three weeks ago, The Walking Dead has been holding it’s massive 16+ million viewers on a weekly basis for it’s fourth season, and it’s follow on show The Talking Dead is even managing to hold around 5 million viewers.

Locally, the show, which is aired on FOXTEL’s FX channel, is bringing in around 220,000 viewers, making it the networks biggest audience.

Walking Dead Season 4 News plus Spin-off News!

You know I love me some Walking Dead news!  Season 4 is now less than a month away, and we (me included) are literally chomping at the bit to get our hands on as much information as possible as to what to expect for this exciting fourth season.

First off, we’re getting a new major character, and she’ll be played by a very familiar face!  Christian Serratos (Angela Weber from the Twilight series) is joining the show as Rosita Espinosa, a gorgeous woman who resorted to prostitution as a way to survive in the zombie apocalypse.  Rosita, who is also featured in the Walking Dead comic book series, may also be joined by her comic companions Eugene Porter and Abraham Ford though no word if that’s actually happening.  It’s been reported she’ll be a recurring character during season 4 with an option to become a regular character for season 5.

Now onto the big stuff!  AMC seem to be in the spin-off business (after announcing the Breaking Bad spin off Better Call Saul) AMC also announced a Walking Dead spin off is in the works too.   Charlie Collier, AMC’s president and general manager, said, “Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer. We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”

It’s been hinted at, that the spin off series will be more of a companion series and will be set in the same time and world as The Walking Dead but will feature a new cast of characters.

While we’re on the topic, to get you excited, check out this new teaser trailer for the season 4 première!

Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead

Let me start off by saying that I’m super late to the Walking Dead game.  I tried to watch when the show began in the states, but the premise of a drama intertwined with zombies didn’t sit well with me and I found it too slow to keep me entertained. If my memory serves me rightly, I managed to watch up-to where some sheriff guy meets up with his wife and kid in a camp settled outside the city.

Well, how stupid was I?

I’m now half way through season three and I’m in love with Daryl Dixon.  I also cheered when Lori died while giving birth and now spend each episode hoping Carl find himself on the wrong end of a kiss from walker.  I’m pretty sure that makes me an official Walking Dead fan.

Now even though I’m still not yet up-to-date with pretty much everyone else in the world, I have been privy to what to expect for the rest of season three as the big events of the last few episodes of the season were all over social media (and I wasn’t watching then so I happily browsed away)

That said, the season 4 trailer released at this years San Diego Comic-Con meant nothing to me.  There’s more people in the prison (where did they come from?) and lot’s more zombies too.  Check it out for yourself below!
