X-men Danger Room Protocols Channels 90’s Animated Awesomness

Ask any X-Men fan about the comic book series during the 90’s and one of the first things talked about is the kick-ass animated series that saw the ever popular mutants brought to life for the very first time.

Even though the series ended in 1997, the animated series remains a favorite for X-men fans and to this day, retains a very cool nostalgic vibe to each and every episode.

Cut to early 2016, where Canadian animator Joel Furtado drops a sneak peek look at his “love letter to Marvel”, his own take on the X-Men in animated-meets-arcade-game form via X-Men: Danger Room Protocols.  An 18 episode animated series that borrows heavily from the original animated series from the 90’s, that will see various and well known members of the X-men pitted against their most dangerous foes.

Check out the very cool trailer and a look at Joe and his plans for the series in the video below:

As you can see, everyone from Cyclops to Storm, Wolverine and Psylocke are all set to feature and battle it out against Mystique, Sabretooth, White Queen and Magneto with episode one featuring Wolverine and Jean Grey and titled ‘survival’ poised to be released on Joes YouTube Channel on Jan 19th – you know, that’s if Marvel and FOX don’t put a complete stop to the project before it ever see’s the light of day.

Either way, we’re loving the look and feel of what Danger Room Protocols is offering and can’t wait for the final product!

Update: Feb 2016 – Sadly, only one episode of this awesome work made the light of day…and for about 20 minutes before Marvel stepped in and shut the project down.  watch what creator Joe Furtado has to say about the situation over at his official website.

Comic Talk: An Original X-Men Member Comes Out

In collection of leaked panels from this weeks newest issue of All New X-Men #40, Bobby Drake aka X-Men’s original team member Iceman is outed by fellow original member Jean Grey after picking up on his ‘over-compensation of comments on his other female team members’.

Bobby’s ‘outing’ isn’t so…well straight forward.  This version of Iceman is actually from the past who has traveled to current time with Cyclops, Beat, Jean and Angel to help fight alongside the current team.  The news now begs one to ask if the modern era version of Iceman is gay too?  His relationships with Mystique, Polaris and Psylocke suggest no, but could younger Iceman’s appearance shatter perceived images?

Back in 2012, Marvel made headlines by publishing the first gay marriage in superhero comics with the union between Northstar and his parnter Kyle Jinadu to which garnered general positive reactions from fans.
