No Fast-Tracked TV Shows Coming Our Way?

This time last year, you might recall being inundated with ads for new shows like The Blacklist and Marvels Agents of Shield and previews featuring the words “Fast-Tracked from the USA” or “Airing the same day as America” but for some reason, these ads pushing for new shows are quite visibly absent from our screens especially seeing that the new batch of shows are due to start airing from Wednesday the 17th right through to mid October.

FX are fast tracking the new season of The Walking Dead on October 13th – which of course is to be expected, but to-date, with the slew of new shows due to hit US screens within the next two weeks, only Channel 10 have made any announcement as to any new US programming including drama Scorpion starring Robert Patrick and Katherine McPhee and new political drama Madam Secretary starring Tea’ Leoni and Tim Daly and is being touted as a mix between Homeland and Scandal.

Among the myriad of new shows that are making news include Debra Messing’s The Mysteries of Laura, Katherine Heigl’s State of Affairs, Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes new How to Get Away with Murder, Kate Walsh’s Bad Judge, Batman prequel series Gotham and comedy Fresh Off the Boat about an Asian families foray into American society.

So why the vacancy of fast tracked programming to our screens?

While only speculation, one could possibly put it down toe due to the high levels of reality programming currently assaulting our screens right now.  Between The Block Glasshouse, Big Brother, X-Factor, The Bachelor and Amazing Race Australia, there’s not much screen time left on free to air prime time network television.

It’s here and it looks just as godawful as the first outing!  The Sharknado 2: The Second One trailer dropped online today and it looks so damn bad that it’s gotta be good.

The sequel to the ‘movie event’ of last year (ahem) once again sees Ian Zeiring and Tara Reid fighting tornado’s spitting out sharks but this time round, the action has been moved to New York City.

Along with Ziering and Reid, other suckers along for the ride include Vivica A Fox, Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath, Kari Wuhrer (Sliders), Judah Friedlander (30 Rock), Andy Dick, Kelly Osbourne, Billy Ray Cyrus and Judd Hirsch and yes, that was Matt Lauer making a cameo too.

For those hanging to see this giant mess, Foxtel announced that we will be gettin Sharknado 2 fast tracked to our screens within minutes of the US.  SyFy channel will air the movie on July 31st at 11:30am with a late-night repeat set for 9:30pm and perfect timing to take part in the numerous Sharknado 2 drinking games that will be sprouting up shortly

Sharknado 2: The Second One airs Thursday July 31st at 11:30am/9:30pm on SyFy Channel.

12 months after it was unceremoniously dumped by channel 9, iconic daytime soap opera Days of our Lives is finally returning to Australian screens thanks to a deal between FOXTEL and SONY.

FOXTEL will launch the soap on it’s Arena channel on Tuesday April 15th starting at 12:50pm with episodes fast tracked to our screens only hours after it’s airing in America.

Even better news for fans, Arena plan to air 10 catch-up episodes prior to the April 15th start, each introduced by cast members, to close the gap in story-lines between the soaps last airing in Australia to the current episodes to be screened.

Foxtel’s general manager of entertainment channels, Brendan Moo, described the show as a ‘‘truly iconic television series”.

‘‘[Days of our Lives] has amassed many generations of fans and we are delighted to be able to bring the series back to Australian television.  We’ve also made the decision to express episodes … which means Foxtel customers will be able to watch the show just hours after it airs in the US and take part in the global fan conversation online and via social networks to enhance their viewing experience.’’

Foxtel will also air a weekly ‘‘omnibus’’ of episodes on Sunday mornings on Arena and make the series available to Foxtel subscribers online through its On Demand service, on set-top boxes or the Foxtel Go iPad app.

Days’ Arena screening will be paired with another daytime soap which FOXTEL rescued from axing – The Young and the Restless, which began screening on Arena in 2007 after it’s axing from free-to-air television.

Nine axed Days of Our Lives last April after 45 years on Australian television before finally returning online via Crackle.com.
