First Look – Hannibal Season 3 Trailer

The first look at Hannibal’s third season is ready for devouring and judging by the video, it looks like we’re in for a mighty meal.

The trailer for the cult-favorite, blood soaked thriller shows Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) alive and well after his encounter with Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) obsessivly on the hunt tracking down the killer with a penchant for flesh who is now on the run.

Gillian Anderson is back (of course, but this time in a more permanent role) as Bedelia Du Maurier and a new face in the form of Tao Okamoto as Chio who, as Fuller states, plays a twist on the Lady Murasaki character from the Hannibal novels.

Showrunner Bryan Fuller announced that season three will pull heavily from Thomas Harris’ novels Red Dragon and Hannibal Rising, mashing up elements from both novels and revealing a very different origin story for Hannibal.

Hannibal’s third season begins later this year.

A Reckoning is Coming: New Hannibal Season 2 Trailer Out

It does need to be said that for the most part, on paper, a small screen show about one of cinema’s most infamous serial killers should not have worked – especially when working with the constraints of censors and network television yet NBC’s Hannibal turned out to be one of the most thrilling and chilling new shows to premiere in 2013.

The ‘different killer each episode’ is tired but works (look at The Blacklist) but it’s the underlying main storyline of Hannibal and his connections to each murder that pulled us in.  Superb performances from Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), Hugh Dancy (WIll Graham) and even Gillian Anderson as Hannibal’s therapist Bedelia Du Maurier was exciting to watch.

Needless to say, i’m excited to see what’s coming.

Now NBC have dropped a preview for the show’s upcoming second season and it looks like things pick up right where we left off with Will Graham behind bars, accused of the crimes actually committed by Hannibal now trying to prove his innocence by throwing shade on the real killer – Hannibal Lecter.

Check out the preview below.

Hannibal returns to American screens on Feb 28th.  No date set for Australian screens.

Hannibal Season 2 Details

Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal

Let’s make something very clear.  Series creator Bryan Fuller always intended for series one of Hannibal to go in Dr. Lecter’s favour.

Says Fuller: “When I was breaking the pilot and thinking about where this goes, it occurred to me that Hannibal needs to win this round…I had always pitched in every conversation that … the last shot of the season is that iconic shot from Silence of the Lambs where you’re coming down the corridor toward the last cell on the left and instead of finding Hannibal Lecter there, you find Will Graham. It felt very poetic and it felt powerful and it felt full of promise.

With season one now done, fans (myself included) are left to wonder what the fate is for our beloved Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and who’s next on the menu for Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen).

In an interview with TV Guide, Fuller was quick to re-instate his plan for the series stating that Hannibal will consist of several season long story arcs that will bring the series to it’s most logical conclusion – the beginning of The Silence of the Lambs.

Season two will be set up to explore the ramifications of those involved in season one considering most were dealt heavy blows by Will’s supposed involvement in the copycat murders.

Says Fuller, “[Will] will be incarcerated, and we will be dealing with all of the threads of that…Will Graham needs to go on trial for the murders that he may or may not have committed. Jack has to be brought before a review board for his participation in what happened to Will, and Hannibal, as Will’s psychiatrist, is going to continue to try to help Will see the truth that Hannibal wants him to see. The ball is up in the air in so many ways for Jack and Hannibal and Will. The fun of season 2 will be spiking those balls.”

Fuller also states that season two will also incorporate Will’s realization that Hannibal was in fact responsible for the copycat murders to which Fuller feels like Will would have mentioned something to Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishbourne) prior to being tossed in a cell. In addition to facing a review board as fallout for the Will Graham fiasco, it seems that investigating Will’s claims will clearly be a part of Jack’s season 2 arc.

“…Jack will be investigating those accusations. I think after Will woke up from getting shot by Jack and before he was put into the institution, he shared his theories about Hannibal. Now it’s up to those characters and Hannibal Lecter to either support or deny those accusations in a properly investigated way.”

Fuller is still yet to part with any details on supporting cast including Gillian Anderson as Hannibal’s psychotherapist.  “I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to happen in the series. However, I will continue to be on it, until he eats me,” Anderson says.

Hannibal will return for Season two in 2014.

Update: New details on Hannibal’s second season (moving to Fox8 on Foxtel)

Renewed: Hannibal Back for Season 2

Hugh Dancy as FBI Profiler Will Graham

After what seemed like an insanely long wait, NBC have finally announced that psycho-drama Hannibal will be back for a second helping.

The series, created by Bryan Fuller and starring Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen and Laurence Fishburne, has been holding steady with viewers (currently holding a 4 million viewership) but is up against solid favourites including Elementary and Scandal.

NBC announced that is has ordered 13 episodes for season two and will hit screens either mid season or later.  “We’re so proud of Bryan’s vision for a show that is richly textured, psychologically complex, and very compelling,” NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said in a statement. “There are many great stories still to be told.”

Hannibal airs on Channel 7, Wednesdays at 10pm.

With its premiere date set, NBC is offering up some delectable information on it’s newest drama ‘Hannibal’.  Premiering April 4th (10/9c), Hannibal examines the relationship between the infamous Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) and FBI profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy), two characters introduced in the novel ‘Red Dragon’ by author Thomas Harris and works as a prequel to the Silence of the Lambs tale.

“Before there was “Silence of the Lambs,” before there was “Red Dragon,” Hannibal Lecter was a brilliant psychiatrist in the employ of the FBI.  Recruited by FBI boss Jack Crawford, the head of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit, to crack the tough cases.  Now Lecter must help a sensitive but gifted criminal profiler, Will Graham, who is haunted by his ability to see into the minds of serial killers.

Will, the hunter of psychopaths, finds himself seated opposite Hannibal, the biggest psychopath with the biggest secret, discussing dark feelings and precarious mental states.”

The gore factor is upped more than your standard night-time drama on a non-cable network with one scene showing the famously cannibalistic doctor serving up a pair of gourmet lungs.

Lawrence Fishburn (The Matrix) is along for the ride as Agent Jack Crawford and keep an eye out for the X-Files’ Gillian Anderson who shows up later in the opening season as Lecter’s therapist.
