A is For Answers in Pretty Little Liars Summer Finale

pretty-little-liars-the-betrayal-suspect-tracker2

There’s some worry floating about the world of Pretty Little Liars as it leads up-to it’s massive summer finale being touted as THE episode to give us all the answers to all the questions we’ve been asking over the past five years.

The worry being “we’ve been down this road before” where we were all told we’d finally find out the identity of A – the faceless stalker harassing Spencer, Emily, Aria, Hanna, Alison and their parents – during the season five finale only to have some random named Charles thrown at us as an answer leaving many many many fans frustrated at once again having another question awaiting an answer.

In the past 6 seasons, the only major questions that have been answered include – Melissa was black swan, Alison was actually alive the whole time and Mona was the first of Big A’s helpers…it’s not much when you look back at 6 seasons worth of unknowing.

I must admit, I’ve been wavering with my dedication to the show backing up from the revelation A-is-Charles-but-who-the-heck-is-Charles storyline.  Concerned with the amount of unanswered questions that continuously pop up, the finger pointing at possible secret identities only to have them washed away with the introduction of another secret identity…it’s only my loyalty to Laura Leighton (Ashley Marin) that had kept me continuing on with the show, but show creator I. Marlene King is telling us all to put aside our worries….

There you have it – It’s NO lie, answers are coming to questions that have been asked throughout the past 6 seasons of the show.  “Who is Charles?  Who killed Toby’s mom?  Who hit Alison in the head with the rock the night she went missing? Who is Red Coat?  Who killed Bethany?  Who is the Black Widow?  Why has ‘A/Charles’ been targeting the liars all this time?

And while the answers are coming, they too bring with them the possibility of disappointment – especially with something that has been built up so much and for so long.  The identity of A/Charles has been the driving force behind the show and fans won’t accept some new character (like Sara, Rhys or Leslie) to be our main protagonist which begs the question….

“Who is Charles and who will make us happy to be revealed as Charles?”

As evidenced by the last episode (6×09) none of our main liars could be Charles, neither could Toby, Ezra or Caleb (they’re all at the prom) and our mom’s – Ashley, Ella, Pam and Veronica can be ruled out too (as they are currently locked in the DiLaurentis’ basement – and Charles is Alison and Jason’s sibling).  Characters like Wren, Lucas, Mike, Jenna and Paige have all played along throughout the show but will we be satisfied with a secondary character claiming ownership of such a big part of the show?

Pretty Little Liars has a lot riding on this episode with literally millions of people worldwide investing 5 years into this show leading up-to this episode that is revealing ALL.  I’m hopeful Marlene and the writers will produce some well thought out answers that not only work but also make sense.

For me – answer wise – I’m leaning towards Wren or Lucas being A/Charles, Jenna being redcoat and Ashley Marin as the Black Widow secretly working against A/Charles..

Tell me your thoughts and predictions for A/Charles, Red coat and Black Widow in the comments!

Pretty Little Liars Unmasks Big A

Ashleymarin363
Ashley Marin (Laura Leighton and Hannah (Ashley Benson) have words)

5 years.  Yep, we’ve spent half a decade with Aria, Hannah, Emily, Spencer, Alison and a myriad of wayward teens, sexed up parents and shirtless hotties trying to decipher clues as to the identity of Rosewoods main antagonist and finally, this Friday night (March 27th) on FOX8, we’ll be given the biggest clue – the identity of A.

Well sort of.

Without offering spoilers, we’re not given a definitive answer as to who is Big A, but you’ll leave this episode with not one, but two massive revelations and a possibly the answer to the question…”Is ‘blank’ actually Big A?”

When you see the episode, you’ll see where i’m going with this!

The episode which aired Tuesday night in America was one of the most watched episodes of the show this season with PLL’s creator Marlene King saying “This is an episode that’s not just shocking and action-packed and scary as hell — it’s demented and emotional.  I just think there are many, many things that are going to feel new to our fans, and that’s what’s so exciting about it.  It’s the most important episode we’ve done so far so. It’s just balls out, and a really fun, new, and interesting direction for the show.”

The Pretty Little Liars Season 5 finale airs Friday night, March 27th, 7:30pm on Fox8

Pretty Little Liars’ Big ReveAl Is Coming

BN-DS107_liars_G_20140715181254

Could it be true?  After 5 seasons, over 100 episodes, assorted deaths, mysterious text messages and many a red coat, it seems we are finally edging closer to discovering the real identity of Pretty Little Liars’ ‘Big A’.

We’ve been led down many a winding road with our liars only to be let down with mini A’s (Mona) and fake members of the A Team (Toby and Ezra) but now, it seems, we are heading towards the light.

That’s from PLL creator Marlene King who followed up with the following tweet:

PLL’s Keegan Allen (Toby Cavanaugh) has let it be known that when it comes to the identity of Big A….we’ve already seen them. It won’t be some random character that pops out of nowhere saying ‘surprise bitches’.

So who is Big A?  Or who could be Big A?

Everyone from lead characters Aria (Lucy Hale) and Hannah (Ashley Benson) to Ashley (Laura Leighton) and even the deceased Maya (Bianca Lawson) have all been tossed around the theory bin but it looks like we’re going to have to wait until the season 5 finale on March 24th for a very long awaited answer.

Who do you think is Big A?  Sound off in the comments below!

Best TV Characters of 2014

Imafge1

Zombie killers, jaded actresses, prison wardens, freaks, loud mouth-know-it-all’s, CIA agents, lawyers, mothers, detectives, therapists…whatever the ‘profession’, the range and scale of characters scattered throughout the television year has been wide and varied.

To celebrate the year that was, here’s my list of the 23 best television characters of 2014

23: Beth Davis – “Stalker”

26

A stalking victim turned head of the stalker unit with the L.A.P.D turned stalking victim.  It’s no wonder Beth Davis (Maggie Q) keeps her cards close to her chest.  There’s something mysterious about Beth, but that’s probably because we’re only just starting to unravel the trauma she suffered many many years ago.

22: Ellie Torres – “Cougar Town”

25

Ellie (Krista Miller) is the best friend you want to have but probably couldn’t deal with her in-your-face bluntness.  And while she’s begun to warm up-to others around her, you just know Ellie always does what’s best for Ellie.

21: Will – “Friends With Better Lives”

24

Will was the externally confident but internally, was incredibly insecure.  The single guy in his group of loved-up friends, no romantic challenge was off limits, even if it included an almost three-way with one of his friends.

20: Gina Spinks – “Web Therapy”

23

Gina, Gina, Gina.  The only woman in the world to take horrible advice from her therapist and turn it into a positive…with that positive being becoming a sex toy party host.  The great thing about Gina is, she literally does not see the mean coming from those around her.

19: Dr. Betty Rogers – “Motive”

22

Handling dead bodies never looked so sexy!  Betty’s (Lauren Holly) take-no-prisoners attitude towards her job isn’t even covering some deep seeded need to be taken seriously, it’s just Betty.  Plus the fact she’ll rock up-to a crime scene in full nightclub attire without any explanation as to why or where she’s been just shows Betty is deadly serious about her work.

18: Haley Duphy – “Modern Family”

21

Being one of three Dunphy children makes it hard for one to stand out, but this year saw Haley (Sarah Hyland) bump herself up with some incredibly funny scenes involving her finally taking a leap forward with her career post community college drop out.  Gone is the self obsessed, younger sister dissing ditz, replaced with the self obsessed, younger sister dissing career woman.

17: Bedelia Du Maurier – “Hannibal”

20

Has Bedelia (Gillian Anderson) fooled us all along?  Her almost whispered tones confessing her beliefs of Hannibal’s guilt this year made us all believe not only does she believe Hannibal is the Chesapeake Ripper, but she’s also quite fearful of her life…that was until that final scene of season two.

16: Connor Walsh – “How To Get Away With Murder”

18

Connor (Jack Falahee) proves it’s not always the girls who can use sex as a way to get what they want as he bed-hopped his way around obtaining key pieces of evidence and information to ensure he stays in favor with his mentor.  His bitchy, snarky and manipulative demeanor is a perfect throwback to the days of Melrose Place and Amanda Woodward.

15: Peter Quinn – “Homeland”

16

Quinn (Rupert Friend) sure is a damaged and broken man.  He’s hell bent on trying to make right (still living with the demons he pick-up after accidentally killing a young boy) while also dealing with emerging romantic feelings for his boss.  Copious amounts of booze and random acts of sex with his landlord didn’t seem to help, nor his attempt to express his feelings for said boss.

14: Laura Diamond – “The Mysteries of Laura”

15

Sure Laura (Debra Messing) really displaced me on our first meeting but over time, Detective Diamond has proven herself to be a head-strong and smart woman who happens to not give two hoots about she presents herself to the world.  She’s a mother first and a career woman first too who also happens to carry around a bag akin to that of Mary Poppins.

13: Nicky Nichols – “Orange is the New Black”

14

It was rather interesting getting to see a second side to Nicky (Natasha Lyonne) this year that didn’t involve sex with other inmates.  While it was there and is part of the Nicky we love, her battle with overcoming her heroin addiction and also dealing with the fall from grace of her mother-figure Red (Kate Mulgrew) showed that there is a mature and responsible woman underneath all that red hair.

12: Shoshanna Shapiro – “Girls”

12

Part of the reason why Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) is on this list is purely down to her awesome “go fuck yourself” speech she spewed out to Hannah (Lena Dunham) while in the ‘fake Hamptons’.  It’s a fantastic piece of dialogue that is what all Girls viewers have been wanting to say to Hannah since day one.  “I’m talking about the fact that you’re a fucking narcissist.  Seriously, I’ve never met anyone else who thinks their own life is so fucking fascinating.  I wanted to fall asleep in my own vomit all day listening to you talk about how you bruise more easily than other people.”

11: Beverly Goldberg – “The Goldbergs”

11

There’s no smother (smothering mother) like her!  Whether Beverly (Wendy McLendon-Covey) is trying to stay hip and relevant with her daughter or ego stroke her wannabe rapper-come-kickboxer-come-basketball superstar son, Beverly is there.  Actually, she’s there watching them sleep, eat, at school…she’s everywhere.

10: Annalise Keating – “How to get Away With Murder”

10

You get confronted with this ballsy and upfront woman right from the go.  Annalise (Viola Davis) is all business and for the most part – keeps up a good front but this woman also struggling with a cheating husband, a dead cheerleader and a whole bunch of lies and betrayal so it’s no wonder that underneath the wig, the makeup and the power suits, there’s a very uncertain and sad woman trying to decipher what’s personal and what’s business.

9: Bette and Dot Tattler – “American Horror Story Freak Show”

9

Looking at Bette and Dot (Sarah Paulson) it’s hard to tell the two apart but when you get up close and personal, the conjoined twins could not be more identifiable.  We love that Bette takes what’s in front of her as black and white.  She dreams of stardom and seeing the world for what it has to offer while Dot, the complete opposite.  She knows the world has an extending shade of grey area not to be trusted and yearns for a life that doesn’t involve her sister attached to her 24-7.

8: Alison Hendrix – “Orphan Black”

8

She’s a mom who drinks, kills, has numerous clone sisters and enjoys time performing in local stage productions.  Clearly Alison (Tatiana Maslany) has her priorities right, but has trouble keeping them all in check.  One of the more colorful clones, we’ve seen Alison grow from a suburban stepford wife to an ass-kicking alcoholic while still managing to have dinner on the table for her kids (you know, while she’s not in forced rehab).

7: Ashley Marin – “Pretty Little Liars”

19

The Ashley Marin (Laura Leighton) that is so accustomed to ensuring people perceive her and her daughter to have a perfect life had no choice but to show things are not a peachy keen as they appeared. Accused of murder and shipped off to prison, Ashley had no choice but to let the walls down and ask for help from those she’s been trying to dupe for all these years.  Mix that with Leighton’s compelling performance as a completely distraught mother uncertain of her daughter’s safety and well-being while not having the ability to control what’s happening outside those prison walls makes Ashley Marin a standout.

6: Dr. Fiona Wallice – “Web Therapy”

7

What’s best for Fiona (Lisa Kudrow) clearly isn’t what’s best for everyone else and in true Web Therapy form, Fiona never really learns from her mistakes or errors in judgement.  She continuously looks for the monetary advantage and boost in social standing in those she’s entrusted to help yet is shocked when she’s either double crossed or left holding together what shred of professional credibility she actually has.  Of course, thanks to Kudrow’s impeccable performance, we still root for Fiona to come out on top.

5: Joan ‘The freak’ Ferguson – “Wentworth”

6

Governor Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) is one demented woman haunted by personal tragedy.  She set out her plan for revenge many many years ago that was finally coming to see the light of day and no prisoner or guard within the walls of Wentworth were going to spoil her scheme, even if it meant there would be blood on her hands.  To me, Pamela Rabe was the most genius and perfect casting of any character for 2014.

4: Daryl Dixon – “The Walking Dead”

5

Daryl (Norman Reedus) has always been at the forefront of The Walking Dead but throughout the show, he has (mostly) managed to keep his heart and emotions well and truly hidden.  But it was this year that brought forth a softer side to Daryl – reunited with trusted companion Carol and faced with the death of Beth, the hardened and dirtied exteriors began to fall showing a multi-layered character we all kind of knew was there all along.

3: Carrie Mathison – “Homeland”

3

It’s a reinvigorated Homeland that proved killing off a main character can be beneficial to bringing back a show to it’s best and with Brody now dead, we got back a Carrie (Claire Danes) that was no longer split between work and love (well…there’s now a baby…but you get where I’m coming from) now with her eyes firmly on homeland security.

2: Selina Meyers – “VEEP”

2

You’d have to imagine just what America would be like if Selina Meyer were actually the president.  She’s completely out-of-touch with modern society, curses like a drunken sailor, is blatantly disrespectful to pretty much everyone and yet, we all cheered when she suddenly became the President of the United States.  Put it down to that hilarious scene between Selina and right hand man Gary in the bathroom when she finds out the big news.

1: Valerie Cherish – “The Comeback”

1

All this woman really wants is to stay afloat in an industry where hot one day is cold the next and while Valerie (Lisa Kudrow) knows this first hand, she can’t keep herself away, even if it means playing a fictionalized version of herself in a HBO show written by a man who literally hates her.  And while Valerie and all her irksome habits have a way of pushing you aside, the vulnerability she lets seep out from time to time ultimately pull you back in.

Laura Leighton stars as Ashley Marin in Pretty Little Liars

Just before season 5 begins (there’s now less than an hour to the premiere) ABC Family have given their crazily popular teen drama the networks first ever multi-season pick-up announcing that Pretty Little Liars will be back for a sixth and seventh season which will see the show on our screens in 2016.

The show, which stars Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Tyler Blackburn, Lucy Hale, Ian Harding, Laura Leighton, Shay Mitchell, Janel Parrish and Sasha Pieterse has been the networks number one series in total viewers and holds the record as the most-tweeted scripted series telecast of all time, it has generated the highest average number of tweets per episode (675,000) of any TV series during the 2013-2014 broadcast season.

Season 5 begins shortly (in the USA) and picks up right where season 4 left off with Ezra suffering a gun shot wound by A and Alison rejoining the girls while her mother was being buried alive.

Season 5 begins in Australia, Friday the 13th on FOX8.

Returning: Pretty Little Liars Season 5

010
Big things are in store for Alison when Pretty Little Liars returns next week

When Pretty Little Liars returns for season 5 on June 10th (June 13th in Australia on FOX8) there’s some big things in store for our liars, especially the once-thought-to-be-dead Alison (Sasha Pieterse).

When we last saw Aria, Spencer and the rest of the gang, Alison was revealed to actually be alive, Ezra (Ian Harding) was shot and left bleeding to death in Arias (Lucy Hale) arms and Jessica DiLaurentis (Andrea Parker) was being buried alive by an unknown assailant – talk about drama!

In the sneak peek below, Alison will come face to face with the person she has been hiding from all this time – A!

So what else can we expect from this all new season?  Some answers that we’ve been begging to be answered will finally been revealed!

The identity of A: Executive Producer Oliver Goldstick revealed during PaleyFest that we would discover the identity of A very soon but didn’t set a   time-frame for this reveal.  One can only hope that season 5 brings us this big answer!

Caleb is Back!: With the cancellation of Tyler Blackburns supernatural themed Ravenswood, it left his character Caleb Rivers open to return to Rosewood and possibly his ex girlfriend Hanna (Ashley Benson) but will the two re-unite romantically?  Ever since Caleb left, Hanna has been playing flirty-eyes with Travis (Luke Kleintank)

Melissa’s Secret Whispers to Mr.Hastings: Wasn’t that one of the big what-the’s?! of the season four finale?  Melissa (Torrey DeVitto) tells her father Peter Hastings (Nolan North) that Spencer didn’t kill the girl in Ali’s grave and then proceeds to continue the sentence as a whisper into her fathers ear.  According to writer Joseph Dougherty, we will learn what Melissa actually whispered!

Will Ezra Survive His Shooting?: It’s highly unlikely the show will kill off one of it’s loved characters.  Even when we were all led to believe Ezra was working with A, we all still loved him, so the odd’s of surviving the gun shot wound look good for Ezra, plus he’s got a lot of unfinished business to deal with regarding his book and Aria!

While a lot of the focus for season five seems to stem off from Alison not being dead, there’s still some issues that I think need to be addressed…

Will Ashley Marin Learn the Truth About A?:  Ashley Marin (Laura Leighton) seems to be the only parent in Rosewood who is switched on enough to know things are amiss, but seems to be missing out on that vital sign to clue her in to the existence of A. Plus where is her boyfriend Pastor Ted?  It’s been a while since we saw him last.

Where the heck is Lucas?: Lucas (Brendan Robinson) played such an integral part in season 3 (it was revealed he was part of the A team and that he was the one that gave Emily the massage back in season 2) yet after choosing to be home schooled, we never saw him in season 4.

Mona! Mona! Mona!:  So upon Ali’s not being dead reveal, Ali also let it be known that Mona (Janel Parrish) was the one to convince her to fake her own death and keep it hidden from her closest friends.  One has to wonder if Mona will face some fallout from this revelation!

Pretty Little Liars Season 5 premieres Wednesday June 10th on ABCFamily and Friday June 13th on FOX8 in Australia.
