Kylie and Will.I.Am Out – The Voice Australia 2015

Jessie J will take residence in the big red chair for 2015
Jessie J will take residence in the big red chair for 2015

Well in no surprising news, it’s bye bye to Kylie Minogue and Will.I.Am for the 2015 season of The Voice Australia, replaced with one new face, one returning face and one addition to an existing team.

It’s not so confusing once it’s all spelled out.

Ricky Martin is back on board along with fellow judge Joel Madden who this year, will be joined by brother Benji (as one coach), Jessie J (It’s not about the money money..we don’t need the money money…) is this years newest face and the returning coach?  Well, it’s none other than our favorite Aussie songstress, Delta ‘Delts’ Goodrem!

We all knew when Kylie announced her Kiss Me Once Tour for 2015 that she’d be a no show…Will.I.Am?  Perhaps it came down to a work clash as he’s just started season three of The Voice UK (and not the utterly horrible decision he made by getting involved in 2014 winner Anja Nissen’s winners single – god awful by the way).

The addition of Benji Madden was a no brainer.  The two are hugely popular here, have a great following and their work together on The Voice Kids made for great viewing.  Jessie J’s addition too was predictable but wise.  J has a strong following here offering up a string of hit singles plus her double season stint on The Voice UK gives her plenty of knowledge and ammo to come into our version with.

Ricky.  We all love Ricky Martin.  Nuff’ said.

Delts.  Must admit, I was very surprised by her addition (or re-addition) to this years coaches.  Bumped for Kylie last year and relegated to The Voice Kids, Delts is back on board for the 2015 season.

Kylie Minogue joins The Voice next year

It seems Delta Goodrem has been given a slight kick in the pants after channel 9 revealed they’ve moved her from her coaching position with The Voice to it’s spin off show The Voice Kids which will feature the singing talents of youngsters in the 8-14 year old category along side Joel Madden.

But Delta is not the only face that will be missing from the mentors chair for season three.  Singer Seal will not be returning, stating “I wish all the Coaches and contestants well. To my Australian fans, sorry to not be back for this upcoming season but I wanted this window of time to focus on a number of exciting career priorities – a new album, a TV and internet project and, most importantly, precious time with my children.”  Rumours had begun circulating that John Farnham and former Spice Girl Mel B could be filling those spots left open, but Channel 9 revealed that Kylie Minogue and Black Eyed Peas front man Will.I.Am will be joining the show.

Both Kylie and Will.I.Am will be fresh off a stint as coaches on the UK version of The Voice.

Said will.i.am of his new gig on Aussie television: “It is an honour to join The Voice Australia as a Coach working alongside Kylie Minogue, Ricky Martin and Joel Madden. Australia is a highly creative country and a place with many good memories that have shaped my music career.” while Kylie followed with “I am so excited to be coming home and being a coach on The Voice. I look forward to spending time in Australia, getting up close and personal with new talent and working alongside the three amazing artists: Ricky, Joel and will.i.am.”

Kitchen Wins on Viewers

My Kitchen Rules Series 2 winners Dan and Steph from QLD

Between a series final of My Kitchen Rules and a battle round of The Voice, it was no surprise to see that last nights television offering drew the most viewers to their television sets this year.

Last nights episode of The Voice saw the Battle Rounds continue on, with both Seal and Ricky Martin using their ‘save’ option to save two singers (Hannah Darling and Jazz crooner Emma Pask) from elimination leaving judge Delta Goodrem with the last save option.  The episode drew a massive 1.97 million viewers but was not strong enough to take down the might that was the My Kitchen Rules finale.

The finale which saw teams Dan and Steph and Jake and Elle, two QLD teams, battle it out in the kitchen in front of eliminated teams and friends and family, and eventually saw viewer favorites Dan and Steph take out the prize, drew the biggest audience so far this year with a massive 2.97 million viewers (Nationally, the program brought in 4.27 million viewers).

My Kitchen Rules is set to return next year for a fifth season (Advertising has already begun for teams to apply) while The Voice continues it’s Battle Rounds Sundays through Tuesdays on Channel 9.

Battle of the Talent Shows

The Voice Judges – Seal, Joel Madden, Delta Goodrem and new judge, Ricky Martin

We all knew it was coming.  Channel 9’s smash singing talent show ‘The Voice‘ was, at some point, going to find itself up against channel 7’s popular cooking talent show ‘My Kitchen Rules‘ but the big question was, who was going to come out on top?

In a bid to nab extra ratings, the channel 7 cooking show was given an extra episode of ‘MKR‘ on a Sunday night time slot to battle against the return of ‘The Voice‘ on Channel 9 which was a ratings winner for the station and was last years most watched television show.  So who came out on top?

In it’s season two debut episode, ‘The Voice‘ was hard to beat.  Bringing in 1.8 million viewers compared to ‘MKR’s 1.4 million.  Seven had hoped their promotion of the Sunday night episode which saw previous ousted contestants battling it the kitchen for a chance to come back into the reality cooking show would bring in the numbers, but up against last years most watched show, it didn’t bring the viewers seven had hoped for.

Both shows however, continue to maintain very healthy ratings.

The Voice airs on the 9 network while My Kitchen Rules screens on the 7 network.
