It’s here and it looks just as godawful as the first outing!  The Sharknado 2: The Second One trailer dropped online today and it looks so damn bad that it’s gotta be good.

The sequel to the ‘movie event’ of last year (ahem) once again sees Ian Zeiring and Tara Reid fighting tornado’s spitting out sharks but this time round, the action has been moved to New York City.

Along with Ziering and Reid, other suckers along for the ride include Vivica A Fox, Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath, Kari Wuhrer (Sliders), Judah Friedlander (30 Rock), Andy Dick, Kelly Osbourne, Billy Ray Cyrus and Judd Hirsch and yes, that was Matt Lauer making a cameo too.

For those hanging to see this giant mess, Foxtel announced that we will be gettin Sharknado 2 fast tracked to our screens within minutes of the US.  SyFy channel will air the movie on July 31st at 11:30am with a late-night repeat set for 9:30pm and perfect timing to take part in the numerous Sharknado 2 drinking games that will be sprouting up shortly

Sharknado 2: The Second One airs Thursday July 31st at 11:30am/9:30pm on SyFy Channel.

Get your raincoats and chainsaws ready because Sharknado 2 is coming!  And expect to see a bevy of familiar faces on screen when the sequel to last years ‘it’s so bad it’s good’ hit TV movie graces our television screens later this year.

Sharknado 2: The Second One for the Syfy channel has announced that not only will lead Ian Ziering be back to fight shark infested tornadoes, but that Tara Reid will also be returning too (There were speculations that Reid was not invited to be involved with the sequel).

Joining Ziering and Reid will be a slew of familiar faces including Vivica A Fox (playing an old high school friend of Ziering’s Finn. In a role to sure stir up memories, former Taxi star Judd Hirsch will be playing a taxi driver while Comedian Andy Dick is set to play a police officer.

Sugar Ray lead singer Mark McGrath will be playing Finn’s brother-in-law while Fashion Police’s Kelly Osbourne will be seen as a flight attendant.

According to Syfy, the production of Sharknado 2 will begins in New York City next week and the story will see Finn and April (Reid) trying to save NYC after a freak storm turns deadly leaving residents of the city to fight sharks falling from the sky.

Sharknado was an extraordinary ‘perfect storm’ which captured the attention of movie fans across the globe,” Syfy’s executive vice president Thomas Vitale said in a statement. “You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about Sharknado!  By reassembling the creative team—and dropping sharks onto New York’s iconic sites—we’re unleashing yet another ‘fin’ wave of shark-mania.”

Sharknado 2: The Second One is expected to air later this year.

Sharknado Bites into Aussie Screens

Ian Ziering and Tara Reid star in Sharknado

So as to not blindly lead anyone into thinking they’ll be in for an edge-of-your-seat masterpiece film, Sharknado will never win any awards (well, any of the good kind).  The premise of the film should clear that up for everyone:

“When a freak hurricane swamps Los Angeles, thousands of sharks terrorize the waterlogged populace. And when the high-speed winds form tornadoes in the desert, nature’s deadliest killer rules water, land, and air”

Yep, a movie about a shark filled tornado.

So let’s talk Sharknado.

You’ve got 90210 star-cum-Chippendale Ian Ziering in the lead.  He’s supported by Tara Reid (nuff’ said) and then there’s former Baywatch actor Jaason Simmons playing Australian character Bazz Hogan.

There’s some overtly dodgy special effects and while the acting is not gag-worthy-bad, it’s clear in some scenes, most of the actors involved may have approached this with a tongue-in-cheek method.

That said, this made-for-tv movie has clearly eared it’s cult status even before it aired in the USA.  The social media buzz behind this little film was nothing less than impressive and when you have a movie concept as ridiculous as this, it was open season on Twitter, which saw users send the movies title into one of the top trending topics upon it’s premiere – a feat never achieved by a made-for-tv movie.

Sharknado is premiering tonight on Foxtel’s Universal channel.  Perfect.  Friday night with a movie that’s made for a drinking game.  Apparently, every time Tara Reid is shown on screen simply for her bosoms, you take a hearty gulp.  Another one to take note of is having a drink every time a shark is killed by something other than a gun (spears, chainsaws and bare hands all count towards a drink)

The best bit about the whole thing?  Shaknado has already been pegged for a sequel.

Sharknado premieres tonight on Foxtel.  Universal channel.  8:30pm.
