No Fast-Tracked TV Shows Coming Our Way?

This time last year, you might recall being inundated with ads for new shows like The Blacklist and Marvels Agents of Shield and previews featuring the words “Fast-Tracked from the USA” or “Airing the same day as America” but for some reason, these ads pushing for new shows are quite visibly absent from our screens especially seeing that the new batch of shows are due to start airing from Wednesday the 17th right through to mid October.

FX are fast tracking the new season of The Walking Dead on October 13th – which of course is to be expected, but to-date, with the slew of new shows due to hit US screens within the next two weeks, only Channel 10 have made any announcement as to any new US programming including drama Scorpion starring Robert Patrick and Katherine McPhee and new political drama Madam Secretary starring Tea’ Leoni and Tim Daly and is being touted as a mix between Homeland and Scandal.

Among the myriad of new shows that are making news include Debra Messing’s The Mysteries of Laura, Katherine Heigl’s State of Affairs, Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes new How to Get Away with Murder, Kate Walsh’s Bad Judge, Batman prequel series Gotham and comedy Fresh Off the Boat about an Asian families foray into American society.

So why the vacancy of fast tracked programming to our screens?

While only speculation, one could possibly put it down toe due to the high levels of reality programming currently assaulting our screens right now.  Between The Block Glasshouse, Big Brother, X-Factor, The Bachelor and Amazing Race Australia, there’s not much screen time left on free to air prime time network television.

Renewed: The Blacklist Back For Season 2

Well in no real surprising news, the most watched new drama of the year, The Blacklist, has been given a green light for a full 22 episode second season by NBC.  “The success of ‘The Blacklist’ demonstrates that inspired storytelling is alive and well in broadcast television, and I’m impressed on a daily basis by this creative team’s imagination and the extent to which they will go to capture this grand vision on film,” NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said. “With gratitude to both our partners at Sony Pictures Television and our NBC development executives who took a great script and shepherded it into a great series, I hope that Raymond Reddington never runs out of names to bring down on his list!”

Last night’s season one final saw Reddington escape his captors and take a leave of absence of working with the FBI while a new major player in terror by the name of Fitch (played by Alan Alda) is revealed.  The biggest shocker was Raymonds last words to Elizabeth “Don’t Trust Your Husband!”

The Blacklist returns to channel 7 in 2014 for an all new season two.

Tom Puts The Sus in Suspect: The Blacklist

Ryan Eggold and Megan Boone in tonight’s The Blacklist

Things are starting to get very sketchy with Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) and i’m not talking about the knock-off Raquel Welch wigs the wardrobe department are forcing on her head.  I’m talking about her shady husband Tom (Ryan Eggold) and his secret box full of money, passports and guns hidden under her lounge floor.

That damn box has been sitting under that floor for weeks now while Lizzie plays around with Raymond (James Spader), hoping for any scrap of information he might throw her way regarding the contents of the box and the unsolved murder at Angel Station, and tonight, that box, Lizzie, Tom and tonight’s blacklister – Gina Zanetakos all come together in what Lizzie could call her worst day to date.

The resulting effect could undo all the work Raymond has been investing in Lizzie and put him back right where he started from.

I don’t trust Tom.  He’s suspect.  You’ll understand tonight after the episode.  There’s more to him than whats being let on.

The Blacklist airs tonight on Channel 7, 8:30pm.

Surprise Results in New Season Ratings

Time to talk ratings.  What people watched and what they didn’t.  The ‘fall season’ premiere week is now over in the USA and it revealed some rather surprising results.

The Blacklist was the most watched new drama of the lot.  Nothing surprising there.  The show received a lot of hype in it’s lead up with and just under 13 million viewers in America tuned in while Hostages was on the complete opposite side with only 7.4 million viewers.  I’m a bit worried for Hostages as it’s home network (CBS) is known for offering shows that bring in massive viewers.  A show with even more hype – Marvels Agents of SHIELD came in with 12.12 million.

Sleepy Hollow was a surprise win for FOX which saw 10.1 million viewers tune in against tough competition and seems like the only jewel in the networks line-up.

some comedies didn’t fare too well.  The Anna Faris led sitcom Mom nabbed 8 million viewers (it’s a terrible show and i’d expect that to drop more next week) while my favorite to come out Trophy Wife brought in just under 7 million for ABC.  On the upper scale for comedies, The Goldbergs did well with 8.94 million and the most watched premiere of the week?

The Crazy Ones starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Robin Williams.  The show brought in a massive 15.52 million viewers and was the number one viewed show for the week.  I’m thinking FOX8 must be pretty chuffed having picked this one up from free-to-air networks.
