Sonia Kruger Joins The Voice Australia for 2015

As an avid The Voice Australia watcher, I was nothing short of surprised to hear that Big Brother Australia host Sonia Kruger is coming onto The Voice Australia for a co-hosting gig.

Now, can someone please explain to me why The Voice Australia needs a second host?  Nothing against Kruges’…the woman does a brilliant job hosting BBAU (though I will put my hand up and say I do miss the Gretel Killeen days) but as for The Voice host Darren McMullen needing a helping hand….he seems to be doing fine with the workload involved with the job.

The news have offered up some mixed reviews from viewers, some even suggesting this hammers in the final nail in BBAU’s coffin for any chance of a return to our screens this year..

Kruges’ joining The Voice AU is just another step in shake-ups for the show with Kylie Minogue and Will.I.Am stepping down from the big red chairs, replaced with Jessie J, the return of Delta Goodrem and the addition of Joel Madden’s twin brother Benji.

 The Voice AU returns later this year on Channel 9.

Well in no surprising news, it’s bye bye to Kylie Minogue and Will.I.Am for the 2015 season of The Voice Australia, replaced with one new face, one returning face and one addition to an existing team.

It’s not so confusing once it’s all spelled out.

Ricky Martin is back on board along with fellow judge Joel Madden who this year, will be joined by brother Benji (as one coach), Jessie J (It’s not about the money money..we don’t need the money money…) is this years newest face and the returning coach?  Well, it’s none other than our favorite Aussie songstress, Delta ‘Delts’ Goodrem!

We all knew when Kylie announced her Kiss Me Once Tour for 2015 that she’d be a no show…Will.I.Am?  Perhaps it came down to a work clash as he’s just started season three of The Voice UK (and not the utterly horrible decision he made by getting involved in 2014 winner Anja Nissen’s winners single – god awful by the way).

The addition of Benji Madden was a no brainer.  The two are hugely popular here, have a great following and their work together on The Voice Kids made for great viewing.  Jessie J’s addition too was predictable but wise.  J has a strong following here offering up a string of hit singles plus her double season stint on The Voice UK gives her plenty of knowledge and ammo to come into our version with.

Ricky.  We all love Ricky Martin.  Nuff’ said.

Delts.  Must admit, I was very surprised by her addition (or re-addition) to this years coaches.  Bumped for Kylie last year and relegated to The Voice Kids, Delts is back on board for the 2015 season.

Anja Nissen Wins The Voice Australia

Yes, I was team Jackson Thomas all the way and right up until the end, was getting excited that he could actually take out the prize, but there beside him was the big voiced blonde Anja Nissen who in the end, took out The Voice Australia Season 3.

With rocker Frank Lakoudis and duo ZK bumped out (I blame ZK’s terrible ‘Don’t stop believing’ GLEE moment from last week) many were tipping Team Kylie’s sweet sounding Johnnie Rollins to win with SportsBet placing the 29-year-old at 1.5 odds to win but it wasn’t to be with Johnnie the next to be ousted leaving Jackson and Anja as the final two.

Anja who is the first pop artist to win, looks set to possibly break The Voice winners curse that has seen series one winner Karise Eden go into hiding while promising new music for the last two years and last years winner Harrison Craig, while doing well, pretty much aimed at the nan and pop demographic.  

Along with the win, Anja’s coach Will.I.Am announced his intentions to sign the 18 year old to his label (no more than 15 minutes after the announcement, it’s sitting on wiki)

Kids Bring Voices and Feel-good Vibes to The Voice Kids

Mixing The Voice Australia with cute as  button children sounds like an easy sell but the syrupy cotton candy soaked result was a lot to stomach – especially for this fellow who doesn’t mix children with his reality show competitions.

While the grand prize is well thought out – a $50,000 music scholarship, the idea of putting children onto the stage and having them being open season for savaging on social media (MKR’s Chloe and Kelly and The Blocks Steve and Chantelle anyone?) is somewhat a little off-putting.

Opening up the hugely popular singing competition to “the next generation of great Australian talent” i.e: kids aged between 8 and 14, The Voice Kids is a sugar coated and tamed down version of the show we have come to watch and sometimes scoff at.

The format is the same as we’re used to seeing but with the added presence of eager stage mums and singer Prinnie Stevens on-hand to give the widdle hopefuls some encouraging words of wisdom before being thrust onto the stage.  Premiering last night, of all the contestants to ‘audition’, only one act – identical twins Katie and Emily missed out on turning a chair – but to ease the pain of rejection, they were given a spin in coaches Joel and Benji Madden’s chair.

Speaking of Joel and Benji Madden, they, along with Spice Girl Mel B and former The Voice Australia coach Delta Goodrem are there to build their team while playfully fighting among themselves and fawning over each cute little contestant.

So the big question is, Is there any real talent?  Possibly, and if so, it’d come from those edging towards the 14 year old cut-off, but in general, this fluffy and bubbly answer to bring us more The Voice is one I can happily do without.
